Friday, December 19th, 1997. No school today, Christmas Vacation has officially begun. But guess what time my alarm clock goes off? 6:50 AM!!!!! Just so I can watch good 'ole Hanson on Good Morning America. I realise that I could have set the VCR, but I didn't exactly want the commercials, and I wasn't sure when Hanson was coming on, anyways. So, after groaning, I roll out of bed, splash some water on my face to wake me up, and ran downstairs. The whole house is quiet....I was the only insane person to be awake at that time. *yawn*
I fall down onto the couch and lazily turn on the t.v. with my eyes half open. Now, the wait begins....it's still going....and going....while they keep telling us that Hanson will be on, I keep saying "Yes, we know they'll be on, but WHEN, dammit!" So the program finally starts...News, weather.....Eye Witness News Briefs that keep interrupting (like, how many times does a person need to be shown the weather?) The most annoying thing was that they kept repeating their news, over and over again! The first hour of the show they were suppose to broadcast the news. Yeah, they did that, but they kept repeating themselves after commercials! Finally, I find out exactly what time Hanson will be on....8:45. So I woke up that early just to watch Hanson at 8:45? This was turning out great. Yeah. (in case you didn't know, that was sarcasm.)
Okay, sorry to bore you guys with that stuff. Anyways, a littel closer to Hanson's performance, they show a bunch of screaming fans outside in the cold, waiting to meet Hanson when they come out. You know, this proves my point even more. When one of the fans were asked why she likes Hanson, the first thing I heard was, "Because they're hot!" Then she went on to say how awesome their music is and others followed her on that. I don't doubt that a part of her does like them for their music, but if that were the real reason for her liking them, then don't you think the first words to come out of her mouth should have been, "Because I love their music"? When people ask me why I like them ('cause they hate them, so they wanna know what I think is so good about Hanson), I look at them like they're from Mars and say, "Isn't the answer obvious? I love their music" OR I say "What's not to like about them?" and I kinda thought that's what most people do. Like, common sense says.... But anyways, on with the review. (sorry, this is taking a while)
So, Hanson comes out, introduces themselves, and says "Hi", they shake their fans' hands and blah, blah, blah. Some girls tried to shake their hands a second time, some were even pulling Taylor back! It's like, if you've shaken their hands once, then leave 'em alone, dammit! There ARE others who would like to meet them, too. (like me, but I wasn't there, so that's another story). Hanson had huge smiles on their faces and they looked like they were enjoying themselves a great deal! But if you look closely, they also looked really tired and I just felt so bad for them. What time did they have to wake up to get their voices warmed up for that performace? Like at 4:30 in the morning? *sigh* they must be so worn out. (okay, I'll stop. I feel like a mother.)
Okay, I'm gonna fast forward to the performance. By this time, I was beside myself with impatience and annoyance. I was openly cussing at the screen for them to hurry up (which didn't help much, but hey, I was annoyed). Finally, Hanson came out for a short interview. For the record, they are not doing a sitcom. All those rumours flying around are just that, rumours. If you read anything about Hanson's future that seems totally crazy and you think, "they definitely should not do that," then they won't, 'cause it'll just be another bogus rumour. Anyways, what's with the pants? Ike was wearing tear-aways, was he not? Either way, he looked amazing!! You know, I just love what Ike wears, he's always got amazing clothes on! Taylor, hmmm....he looked okay. I would've chosen a different colour shirt, (it was a sky blue button up shirt, I think, with a white shirt underneath), but he looked pretty good. Although some people don't like Taylor's choice for pants, I think they're pretty damn cool!! Zac...I can't remember exactly what he was wearing. I wasn't paying attention to their clothes during the interview, and it was hard to see what Zac was wearing behind the drums, but I do remember thinking that he looked cute!!
The performance was awesome. Though they seemed to be more charismatic during the David Letterman and Saturday Night Live performances (sorry I didn't write a review for those, but I thought they were both amazing performances!), they were still awesome! They played "Run Rudolph Run" and even their back-up players looked like they were enjoying themselves! Taylor's keyboard "highlight" was amazing. I love that part! How does he do it? I have no idea and I'm not even going to try to learn. All I know is that this song really brings out how well each of them can play their instrument. Ike's part with the guitar was equally as impressing, and Zac was just awesome on the drums. I know, I always say that, but that's what I really think. I still don't understand how a 12-year-old can be so good on the drums. It's beyond me. I was trying to figure out how he accented those drum rolls (I forgot which part that was at, I don't listen to the song very often), but he was going too fast. You guys are probably like, "Carley, what the hell are you talking about?" *sigh* nevermind. Another thing...everytime Zac looks at the camera, he always looks so adorable! I'm sorry to all of you who get offended when people say that Zac is "baby cute", but to me, it's a fact, so I have to say it. Sorry again. I never said anything about it before, so I should mention it here... Tay's hair looks great. I think it looks better at that length than it did when it was longer.
There were things that bothered me, though. Like, I couldn't help but notice how Tay was stomping his feet in the beginning. He was alternating his feet...left, then right, left, then right....and it looked pretty weird 'cause his knees were bent and it just looked like he was lifting his heels (?). He stopped though, and went back to just stomping one foot, changing occasionally. Did y'all notice Ike's starting to pick up Tay's habbit? He's not as wild, though. But I'm not trying to make fun of Tay for stomping his feet, I know he's only doing it 'cause he's enjoying himself and I think that's cute. Oh yeah, Tay yelled out "come on" three times during that part where he doesn't play his keyboards. *grin* I felt sorry for him there. It looked like he didn't know what to do! He couldn't exactly ask people to clap, like how many people were there? The thing that annoyed me most was the fact that they cut off "I Will Come To You"! I realise that it was the end of the program, but I wanted to see it!!! I know, I can't always have what I want, but I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way, right? They started out pretty nicely, though!
Overall, I was kinda disappointed. It was a good set, they played the song very well, but I guess I expected a little more. But then again, I've been in a very bad mood lately (and the fact that I woke up so early just to wait another hour and 45 minutes to see them perform didn't help much, either), so I'm very temperamental, which would explain why I was cussing at the screen when they cut the song off. I'm sure most of you enjoyed it though, and you should. If I weren't in such a bad mood, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have been so disappointed. *sigh* they should stop doing these early morning shows.
Tolerance meter: 4 (I am a very impatient person. They should give us an exact time, next time around!)
Weary meter: 6.5 (like I said, they looked pretty tired...if you look closely)
Fan meter: 5 (one girl started crying after Hanson went back into the studio)
Charisma meter: 9 (this would have been given a 10, but they looked like they were having more fun on SNL!)
Isaac meter: 10 (he was awesome through out the whole performace...all smiles.)
Taylor meter: 9 (the weird thing with his legs were really...well, weird!)
Zac meter: 9 (he wasn't smiling half the time!)
Cool-O-meter: 9.5
Performance meter: 9.5
Overall meter: 7
Grand total (out of a possible 100): 78.5
Which gives us an 79% (rounded off) for the overall performance. That's real good!
Well, This is where I'm suppose to add my thoughts about the Good Morning America show but there's one small problem. I didn't see the show. Well, I couldn't see the show. See, my stupd school calls off school when they THINK it's gonna snow so my vacations are always cut short. But, from reading Carleys review I know that it was a good show and I'm sorry I missed it. Well, there's always next time!
