Vital Music and Mail Order

Ever since I first put the page up I've recieved constant e-mail on where and how to get rare OpIvy albums. So I put the address to the place where I got my copy of Unreleased Energy. I know they has copies of Unreleased Energy, Unity: The Complete Collection, and Lint Rides again, and I think that they also have copies of Plea for Peace, Lint: The King of Ska, and Hectic. Unfortunately I have not been able to find where to get another copy of Seedy, I was able to grab mine from somewhere but it was the last copy they had, or I would post that address to. Give Vital a look, just scroll down for the link.

Updates

After about a year and a half of not even touching this page I have decided to begin to try to keep it updated.
The first of these updates is a letter that was written to Lookout! records some time ago to settle some rumors
about what he was doing and why the band broke up. I also polished up the discography section
adding some 5 or 6 more albums to the list. I plan on getting some work done on the lyrics section next and organizing it by album making it more easy to find what you're looking for.

Who Is Operation Ivy?

Who is Operation Ivy you ask? Well they are one of the most legendary Punk/Ska bands ever. They started in 1987 and ended in 1989 and in those two years played 185 shows and over the past 9 years there has been about 20+ records/cd's/tapes with Operation Ivys songs on them. They are known as a pre-rancid band but in my mind Rancid is a post-Operation Ivy band. Why did they brake up you ask, well the song "Journey To The End of East Bay" by Rancid is about Operation Ivy and its brake u. One of the lines is "to much attention anavoididly destroyed". They were getting to popular for them to handle so they decided to brake up.

What other bands were Operation Ivy members in?

The members of Operation Ivy were in many bands before and after they were in Operation Ivy. Lint and Matt were in many bands together. Before Operation Ivy they were in Basic Radio but they broke up because of a nasty note from the second guitarist. After Operation Ivy they started the now popular ska band Dance Hall Crashers but Lint and Matt dropped out before any albums were put out by DHC. They were also in a short lived band named Downfall and are currently in Rancid. Before Operation Ivy Jesse was in S.A.G which became Crimpshrine. After Operation Ivy Jesse's band Big Rig released a 7" but after that Jesse dissapeared to Nicaragua to become a buddhist monk for a period. Before Operation Ivy Dave was in Distorted Truth and Rabbi Conspiricy and after Operation Ivy he was in Downfall with Lint and Matt and he also joined Schlong with his brother Pat (an Operation Ivy roadie)

"Music is an indirect force for change, because it provides an anchor against human tragedy. In this sense, it works towards a reconciled world. It can also be the direct experience of change. At certain points during some shows, the reconciled world is already here, at least in that second, at that place. Operation Ivy was very lucky to have experienced this. Those seconds reveal that the momentum that drives a subculture is more important than any particular band. The momentum is made of all the people who stay interested, and keep their sense of urgency and hope." -J.
