This is the story of my super-cat Rosie. Rosie Dawes was born on the 15th October 1994 in our laundry cupboard. Her Mum a Balinese choc-point called Ali and her Father a stray tabby who I called Martin.

Rosie was named by my Mum. Rosie was born in the morning, she came second behind Muggsy ( who I named ) then came Rex ( who my brother named ) and A.J ( who I named ). Rosie was the runt of the litter. Everyone has their favorites because all the kittens were beautiful and playful, but no one really took any notice of Rosie. She was always left out at feeding time because the other kittens were bigger then her. We had to hide the other kittens just so Rosie could get a feed.

We gave Ali's three kittens away and we were left with Rosie. She was meant to be given to a girl at my school but she never came to pick her up. Much to the dismay of my Dad we kept Rosie.

Six months later Ali had more kittens this time in the woodbox. She had them while I was in bed. When I got up Mum said " Go look in the woodbox Ali has had two kittens ". I went and had a look and I counted " One, Two...THREE !!!" Mum was on the phone and I said " Mum, how many kittens were there ? " She said " Two " So I took another look and counted " one, two, three " She had another one when Mum wasn't there.

The same day Ali had the kittens she decided to move them outside under the verandah. This wasn't very wise because it was winter and it was a very rainy day. The three kittens were under the verandah meowing their heads off so I had to crawl under the verandah and get them. I got them out one by one after a lot of difficulty because Ali had hidden them a long way under the verandah and it was hard to get them. I finally got them all in safely and I was covered in mud and very wet. Ali didn't try to move them again, thankfully.

So we gave all of Ali's other three kittens away and we still had Rosie. We all ( except Dad ) grew to love Rosie like a child. She is such a nice natured cat unlike Ali ( who had turned against the family now we have kept Rosie ) Rosie is more like a dog at times. When I fill the woodbox up she follows me and waits for me while I stack the wood then continues to follow me. When I get home from school Rosie is either sitting in front of the fire inside or waiting in the garden and comes running towards us Meowing when we make our way down the path. She is such a sweetie.

Well a while ago we noticed her becoming clumsy and when we took her to the Vet he said she had cataracts growing over both eyes which she had since birth. She inherited it off Martin who got hit by a car probably two years ago. Rosie was totally blind in one eye and limited vision in the other. Now it's June and she has had an operation to remove the cataracts. She had to travel all the way to Melbourne and she was very well behaved in the car like the Angel she is. She needs a few more check-ups in the next two months. She hasn't been herself which is understandable but Dr. Stanley said she will be fine, she is doing very well for such a young cat ( now 2 and a half ) and his staff loved her too.

So Dr. Robin Stanley and everyone at Animal Eye Care in East Malvern, thankyou for the wonderful job you did with our baby Cat Rosie.
