This evening's meeting of the Lawrence School Board was well attended(Oct 25). A Random Act of FLATness occurred early on. The first statementwas by FLAThead Philip Kimball, who urged POSH to join FLAT in applying theBible to the public sphere and to begin by halting the teaching of foreignlanguages in Lawrence public schools (an activity clearly at odds with Genesis11:1-9). The following is the statement to the board by Paul Mirecki (Associate Professor of Religious Studies/KU). After greeting the board andthanking them for their good work in providing University of Kansas professorswith some excellent students from the Lawrence public school system....

"Like Phillip Kimball, I agree with POSH (Parents for Objective [read: Biblical] Science and History), but they don't go far enough in their application of the Bible's complete teachings to the public sphere. Why do they select only creationism and evolution? Is creation and itsprocesses really the concern they have? FLAT urges POSH to join with us, tofight the secular forces of darkness who would delete the Bible from public life,and so to apply ALL the Bible to public policy, beginning with kindergartenand grammar schools. We are afraid that the general public will begin toget the idea from POSH that they are in fact NOT really interested in theBible, but instead use it as a facade to promote in Kansas public schools areligious (i.e., social) agenda designed at the national level by TV-evangeli$tPat Robert$on. Thank you."
