One More Mistake

He takes the girl into his arms and says,
"What you say we do like the grownups do?"
And what's a grownup anyway
We'd probably be married in a year or two?"
She said, "Put diamonds on my ears, a ring around my finger,
and then we'll see"
She pushes his hand away, but her eyes are saying different,
And so they made
One more mistake
In an above-ground swimming pool
between the city and the country on a summer afternoon
He holds a joint above his head to keep it from getting wet,
he's thinking "Ain't this cool?"
She said, "My father's down at DT's, my mother's out at work,
we're alone today"
Besides they're tired of the sun,
so they head beside the lake
One more mistake
In an fan conditioned room they lie upon the bed,
Metallica looks on.
He said, "The city ain't too far away, I'll take you there some day."
Just a thought
And then it's gone
She said, "Now lie on top of me. I wanna guess your weight,
I wanna feel your weight"
The moment without fear
The moment they hold dear
And so they made
One more mistake
Because there's no one left around
All their worries fall to the ground
The sun is sinking low resting high upon the bleachers
In the recreation field.
He shouts, "Death to all the jocks," lights a cigarette,
A distant church bell rings
She says, "You know those things'll kill you,
They gave my father cancer, wait and see."
He said, "You sound just like my mother,
Now come a little closer,
Come a little closer."
One more mistake
He pulls her close
The tree bends
And a bird flies
