5 October 1998: And the band played on... Marijeanne Carino (aka Mrs. Swale) writes:

Thought you'd get a kick out of hearing that Swales are still in the news:

'Without Her Around' can be heard on the first episode of the Showtime Movie (series?) Naked City. It premiered Sunday, October 4th at 8PM. The scene: Two of the characters are in a bar talking about their friendship many years ago and their lives today. In the background, you hear the unforgettable, emotional voice of Bob Carr singing, "She had really big opinions for such a little girl...." Actually, you hear quite a bit of the song! P.S. The movie/episode is forgettable.

Check out Amy Rigby's new album 'Middlessence'. She gives her thanks to 'the Swales' who backed her on some gigs (minus Bob).

1 May 1997: The Swales split amicably. Ken (drums, zany antics) moves to Austin, TX, to tour with another band (sorry, I don't know the name). Mike S. (bass, ). Mike D. (lead guitar, ) later toured with Edith Frost and then Whiskeytown. Bob (vocals, guitar, fatherhood) has taken to literature, writing short stories. His son, Matthew Carino, was born 25 October 1997.

The decision to end Swales was mutual, the members generally feeling it was time to move on. Read more about it on the history page.

7 April 1997: Hordes of great news. The Swales are rejuvinated and Bob has written a lot of great songs, especially notable, according to his wife Marijeanne, are "Somewhat" and "Man Overboard." The lineup is the same as What's-His-Name with the unfortunate exception of drummer Ken, who has moved to Austin, Texas. The band is currently auditioning for a new drummer.

Check out the new tunes when the Swales play Maxwell's in Hoboken, New Jersey, May 11th. They'll play with the Bludgers, a Champaign, Illinois band they met on the What's-His-Name tour.

Bob's sister, Paula Carino, has her own band. She sings, plays rhythm guitar, and writes for Regular Einstein. You can catch them in NYC, frequently at the Sidewalk Cafe. Totally rockin'.

April 1997: I talked with Mike Daly. The EP is definitely off. He, the other Mike and Ken are back from touring with Amy Rigby (although you can still catch her in your area). The band could begin recording the next album in the near future, but no definite plans have been made. I'll keep you updated here whenever I found out anything else about what the Swales are up to.

March 1997: There is no EP. Look for the new songs to appear on the next album.

January 1997: I got a letter from Bob Carr. He is taking a break during these next two months, doing a lot of reading and journal writing. He's pretty burned out from last year's tour. He's written the songs below, though, and says soon he will write the rest of what will be the third Swales album.

Fall of 1996: The band just finished twenty weeks of touring in support of What's-His-Name. They completed five new songs and recorded them. They are:

These songs were recorded as an EP to be released in 1997.
