The Rude Bones are a great Ska band from Japan.

I first heard the Rude Bones via their song "Hey What's that Noise!" - it was my favourite track on the Saturday Matinee compilation. They're other two songs on that CD were also great and I needed to find out more about them.

I wrote to their address listed on the "Misfits of Ska II" sleeve. Their chief lyrics and music writer HIROAKI OHKAWA wrote back to me.

I found out they have two albums out in Japan and will soon have their album "There'll be lots of hard times along the way" released on Moon Ska records. Dicky Barrett (Mighty Mighty Bosstones) does some guest vocals on the title track. Anyway read some more about them ....

Can you give us some background on the band : Who is in the band and what instruments do they play ?

Hiroaki Ohkawa : Lead, Backing Vocals & Alto Saxophones.

Akihito Okabe : Tenor Saxophone & Backing Vocals

Hiroshi Ito : Trombone & Backing Vocals

Daijirou Ohoka : Guitar & Backing Vocals

Yuta Chiba : Bass & Backing Vocals

Yasuyuki Suzuki : Drums

Are all your songs sung in English ?

Yes, they are

When can we expect a full length CD from the Rude Bones ?

We will release our second album on Moon Ska NYC in October. Our first one, titled "Reality has become Ska" from Moon Ska Records Australia.

What is the Ska Scene like in Japan at the moment ?

Ska scene in Japan is really cool now ! Rude Bones frequently plays with Fruity, Kemuri and Ska Flames and so on ...

What has been your most memorable gig ?

When the Mighty Mighty Bosstones came to Japan to play we did opening act. That was really cool. Unforgettable !

What do the Rude Bones do when they aren't playing music ?

Working !

We have seen some Japanese bands come and tour Australia (Star Club, Bentroot, Tokyo Paradise Ska Orchestra) - Will the Rude Bones ever come and play in Australia ?

We don't know yet, but it's possible. We will tour in the U.S. anyway.

Thanks and Good Luck !
