Hi, and welcome to my music page. I'm guessing you wanna know about my musical tastes then don't you?? Let's start here:
Ben Folds Five is a band that I admire greatly, especially Ben. The band is mainly about piano harmonies, mixed with some drum and bass. Ben himself describes it as "Punk rock for sissies." Their hit song "Brick" isn't one of my favorites, but I might say that this song was the one that got me listening to them. Their first album, self titled I might add, has one of the best songs on it, "Philosophy." This song describes me, if you listen to it hard enough. The phrase that comes to mind is "Go ahead and laugh all you want, but I have my philosophy" and is about just being youself and feeling how you feel, regardless of other's beliefs. Another song, from their more famous album Whatever and Ever Amen, "Selfless, Cold and Composed" can also describe me in a more abstract way. Their third album Naked Baby Photos consists of live recorded songs, and some that were done of the top of the boys' heads. My favorite is "For Those of Ya'll That Wear Fanny Packs," which shows the band's unique musical ability, for the song was totally ad lib. Then came Ben's solo project, Fear of Pop. Volume 1 was released in December 1999, showing that Ben can be his own man. This album has little piano, and hits home more with my techno influenced side. Their newest album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, is absolutely amazing. My favorite song ever, "Magic", is absolutely awesome. It's written by Darren Jessee and is the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. I would strongly reccommend buying this album. There's something on it for everyone. On June 1, 1999 I went to their show in St. Louis. They're great on stage....funny and outgoing. The show itself was wonderful, we were standing by a really nice couple which made it even more enjoyable. And we were close to the stage. After the show, we stood around waiting to get their autographs but no luck. Either we were in the wrong area or they snuck out. Oh well, it was an inspiring show and I'm very grateful i got the chance to go.
Jude is just as amazing as BFF. He was the opening act for the BFF show I went to at the beginning of the summer. Once I heard him, I fell in love. The only album I have of his is No One is Really Beautiful, but it's a good one to have, or so I've heard. He's songwriting is wonderful and I love the whole album.
Owsleyis another guy I heard about through BFF. As one of my friends described him, it's like BFF without the piano. I guess he and Ben are friends, and were in a band together in the past. Owsley's music is known in the power pop genre, and is exactly that. Something new, and something different. I like him alot. He played in Peoria, IL on Dec. 16 at the 99Xmas show, and my god, is he wonderful on stage. I've said time and time again that I adored him before the show, and then i saw him on stage and was absolutely amazed. On stage, he is friendly and open....a people person. It seems like he's talking to you the whole time. He's great. And I got a new idol after that show....I would like to learn how to play the guitar. I was that amazed.
