TOO MUCH INFORMATION

Here's some background info on me and my "past" with the band.

ABOUT ME

My name is Kelley O'Neal, age is 28, live in Oklahoma City, studying Hotel/Restaurant Management. I was 10 years old when i first heard the band singing Girls on film back in '81. I saw the video, but was shocked at what i was seeing(the women), but as far as the band, fell for their music almost immediately. At first, my favorite members were Simon and Roger, then when I saw video for HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, I quickly added John to my favorite members over Roger. Since MTV was still a very young media form to see the band, and didn't have too much variety of videos, I got to see Duran Duran's videos quite a bit considering they seemed to make a video for every single they released. When they toured in 1984, they came to Oklahoma City to perform. Unfortunately, my parents thought my sister and I were too young to go, and they didn't want to have to sit through it with us, so we didn't get to see them. Even at an early age, i thought Simon was the sexiest guy on the planet, with John being the "cutest".I remember staying up late to watch the premiere of the WILD BOYS video and loving Simon's long hair and being tied down! Let's just say this video coincided with major hormonal overload at the time...I even bought a fedora hat like John had, had the RIO wallet, all the magazines ever published that even hinted at a reference to the band, plus other memorbilia cranked out for us duran-crazed fans. Back in 1985, I noticed a drastic decrease in radio/tv coverage of Duran Duran, so i assumed(wrongly)that they broke up for good. I knew that John and Andy had gone off and done POWER STATION, but i thought they did that IN ADDITION to Duran Duran. I didn't know at the time anything about ARCADIA. Another thing that severely limited my intake of the band was the fact that my parents cancelled cable service from 1985-1987 (approximately). About 1986, i ditched my stash of DD stuff and switched to other music. A few years ago, i heard a song that i really loved and at the time it definitely helped me through a rough time(long story). Anyways, I would hear the song on the radio, but the dj wouldn't say whose singing it, so i had no idea who sang it(ORDINARY WORLD). I kept thinking, "well eventually I'll find out by listening more. I didn't know who sang it until this past August when i couldn't sleep one night. They were playing a block of BEHIND THE MUSIC shows on VH1. I "suffered" through the DONNY and MARIE show(there wasn't ANYTHING else on that late on a Sunday night). So i decided to just wait and see who was going to be spotlighted on the following show. Lo and behold, it was Duran Duran. I had been curious about what the guys were up to in the time that i had missed. I must say that i never stopped liking the band, just didn't focus on them from 1985-August 22, 1999. Anyways, I thought Simon still looks pretty good, still sounds good. But John still looks "cute", considering being in his late 30s. Surprised that Nick had toned down the makeup. But when i heard THAT song(ORDINARY WORLD) being played, I was totally blown away! I was like wow! It was totally different sound from how i remembered, but still a well-written, and well-performed song. After watching the show, i was like i need to go get that tape! So now I've gone out and gotten all the tapes i used to have, plus most of the new ones, just lacking "LIBERTY". I used up a whole tank of gas searching the city's video stores for their videos, but they don't carry them anymore. I ended up ordering the GREATEST HITS VIDEO COLLECTION from amazon.com. Best money i ever spent! watching those older videos sure brought back the memories and seeing the other ones have helped make new memories. Thanks to several people on the internet(Nicky/LisaMarie, Lynn, and Elizabeth), they are helping me rebuild my collection of Duran Duran video collection. Next year I am determined to see the band live for the first time. Several people have told me what a great show they put on, and i want to see for myself. Even when the band does decide to call it quits for good, i'll keep on listening.
