SMURFS AND SMURFETTES...

Peyo's smurfs are really interesting. They are in the last phase of the Karl Marx Communism : everyone is equal and works for the community. Azraël - not the cat, but our band- is living in this smurfy way. We don't want someone to be more important than another one : we believe that peace, love and well-being come when everybody is free and respects each other. That's why we escape from this fuckin world, where money is Queen and selfishness her husband and where racism, exclusion and xenophobia keep on goin, more and more..

By Smurfette Hernestine.

I'm a girl who doesn't really like the society in which we live.
I can't understand everything is around money : no one (or so few ones)
do anything for free, for pleasure. Everyone is lookin for interest,
for profit, for himself. And so much people would like to take the power...
I think this kind of thing generates hate, suspicion, selfishness and
so lots of inequalities : rich are always getting more money, and the
others are having less and less money... I believe that if we keep goin'
on this way, the result will be terrible.

So, when you know my point of view about our world, you can
imagine I need to escape, in unreal, in imaginary worlds.

AZRAEL, our band's name comes from the Peyo's smurfs. We really
love this cat, because he is not so bad as he seems to be. We often
believe that he hates smurfs, like Gargamel, but in fact, not at all.
Azraël wants to eat smurfs because they look like mouses for him, and
that's all. He hasn't any matter with them. In a story, at the end
(it's the second story of the first album), we can see Gargamel as
small as a smurf, and Azraël, who'd like to eat him. So he hasn't
anything against smurfs. He only wants to eat. So, we can say, that
in the Peyo's stories, Azraël doesn't really take part in conflicts
which oppose Gargamel and the Smurfs, and particularly, what symbolises
Gargamel and what symbolise Smurfs... I believe we can think that Azraël
is in fact a spectator. That's why, I think, we've called our band like
him. We only are spectators too, we can't decide for the world, we just
can see. Nothing on the world depend of us, so we're just expecting
things and events, we're just spectators....

Now, I'd like to explain why I believe this Comic is interesting.
I'm first going to speak about smurfs.
Smurfs live in a communist society. [I must explain what I call
"communist". This is completely different of what Stalin imposed in
USSR. Stalin was a dictator, and wasn't communist. He only acted for
himself, for himself to have the power and for himself to keep the
power, and not for people. He installed censorship. That's not
Communism. In the real communist system, no one has got the power, and
equality and freedom are really important.].
I first can say that Papa Smurf looks like Karl Marx. And he's
an exception in the Smurf's world : he's in red (colour of communism? ),
and he's the older smurf. Everyone listens to him because he always
gives good advises to other and always tries to help them when there's
a problem.
The others smurfs are all the same. It symbolises they are all
equal. No one is better than other. And there are smurfs who symbolise
anyone in our society. Vanity Smurf, for example, symbolises homosexual
people, and there's a proof of tolerance : I have never seen him
rejected by the others. Every smurf works for everyone, without looking
for profit or private interest. That's why I love this society. The
reject of dictature is symbolised by the second album : a smurf takes
all the power, and everything is getting bad.

In a lot of stories, smurfs are opposed to Gargamel, an human,
a wizard. Gargamel symbolises capitalism, money, hate, Catholicism and
stupidity.
I said "money", because we all know that Gargamel wanted to catch a
smurf in order to change him in money, in gold. He wanted to get rich,
and strong, and powerful....that's why I said "stupidity" too.
I said "hate", because he's always speaking about vengeance, about
his wishes to see the smurfs dead, and he always tries to do some bad
things to the smurfs.....that's why I said "stupidity" too.
I said "religion" because Gargamel thought that a woman will destroy
all the smurfs, so that a woman bring with her all the problems of the
earth, so he did a smurfette (3rd album) and put her in the forest, for
smurfs could find her. The Catholics think like this : all the bad
things arrive by the woman : Eve, in the lost paradise. That's why I
said "stupidity" too.
Gargamel seems to symbolise the humanity's aspect of destruction.
Humans have always done wars, have always fight. Gargamel is doing this.
He want to destroy the lovely and peaceful smurf community.

I believe that's all I can say about smurfs... that was a
little reflection.
