Front Line Assembly/ Switchblade Symphony
Ogden Theater, Denver Apr. 29, 1999
First I don't know if Spahn Ranch played or not, maybe I got there late. I
really wanted to see them over everyone else. This was the third time I've seen Switchblade Symphony and thought they were great. I just think their recordings are very marginal compared to there great live show. I'm really interested in their new recording (To be released soon). Switchblade Symphony gives me my fix for a beautiful dark Wall of Sound, since I'm such a huge fan of Swans, Curve, and Slowdive. I wouldn't say they sound like Curve but there are similar elements that I like in S.S. I also saw a flyer that S.S. is playing again in Denver in June, I think.Front Line Assembly was pretty cool but I think there sound is dated, nothing really made me say "hell yeah". I've never really listened to that much FLA but if you like White Zombie with a little bit more industrial then you'll like FLA. There set just seemed to drag on and a lot of the crowd left towards the end of their set and it wasn't that late. Which kind of shows that people just lost interest. Maybe it's because I'm comparing FLA to Pigface's last tour, which was fucking insane. I think Pigface did like 4+ encores in Denver, everybody was drenched in sweat from dancing the whole time. People were screaming and wouldn't let them leave.
