Olivia Tremor Control

The Music Tapes

Bluebird Theater Denver, CO

May, 4 1999

Well after arriving fashionably late as ways and missing half of the music tapes I took my seat. All can say is that the Music Tapes are the most entertaining band I've seen this year. I could talk about the variety of instruments and stage props all night long. Here's a little taste, a giant metronome that didn't keep time, a basketball and a sheet of metal, what looked like a big pair of arms/hands made out of 2*4's clapping out the beat, a electric banjo, plus a lot more. Then on top of all that, full on indie rock like it was born to be. After a short intermission, which included listening to some of the good tunes the Bluebird plays, getting a Coke, and pondering why we didn't get there earlier. Olivia Tremor Control came into sight on the stage and the lights went out. I think the best way to describe an OTC show is a Brian Wilson/Beatles influenced pop band with a bit of synth wierdness, very audience interactive with 16mm films that kind of go along with the songs. Some of the films where very intriguing and made you wonder what the person in the film was thinking, at least I was. This show most likely saved my life from eminent boredom and depression. I would like to thank the Music Tapes and Olivia Tremor Control for making me happy all over and I sure many others.
