Beatles' Quotes

Beatles Quotes

In their early years, the Beatles captured the hearts of their fans not only through their music, but through their wit. Though John is usually credited with the sarcasm, he wasn't the only one who could be quite comical. They could charm even the toughest reporters on a good day, but on a bad one, earn the wrath of the entire Bible Belt. I gathered these quotes from several places on the "net and in books.

Below are some of their best quotes. The first part is dedicated to their early press conferences--the second to some of their best lyrics. Enjoy and stay tuned.....

THE HUMOROUS

What do you call your hairstyle??
GEORGE-Arthur.

How do you feel about a night club, Arthur, named after your hairstyle?
GEORGE-I was proud-until I saw the club.

Paul, what do you think of columnist Walter Winchell?-
PAUL-He says I'm married and I'm not.
GEORGE- Maybe he wants to marry you??

"I love Beethoven, especially his poems."--RINGO

What do you think about the Beatles??
JOHN-Oh, we love the Beatles. We think they're gear.

THE SERIOUS

"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and will be proved right.......Right now the Beatles are more popular than Jesus Christ.""

"I'm not saying we're better or greater, or comparing us with Jesus Christ as a person, or God as a thing, or whatever it is. I just said what I said, and it was wrong, or it was taken wrong. And now it's all this."--JOHN, recanting earlier statements comparing the Beatles' popularity to that of Christianity.

"If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace"--JOHN

Possession isn't nine-tenths of the law; it's nine-tenths of the problem."--JOHN

"The writing of the Beatles, or John and Paul's contribution to the Beatles in the late sixties - had a kind of depth to it, a more mature, more intellectual approach. We were different people, we were older. We knew each other in all kinds of different ways than when we wrote together as teenagers and in our older twenties."--JOHN
