'N Sync began with Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez knowing each other from The Mickey Mouse Club. They met Joey Fatone when he appeared on the show. Joey knew Chris Kirkpatrick from a song and dance group at Universal Studios. The four members decided they needed a 5th member for harmony and found Lance Bass, through a vocal coach.

'N Sync got the name of their group from their names.

Boyz II Men and Bryan McKinght are 'N Sync vocal influences.
Joey's influences are 50's and 60's groups such as:
Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, and the Temptations.
Lance likes Garth Brooks. Chris patterns his moves and high
soprano after Michael Jackson. JC likes Sting's jazz and
smoky vocal style, and Justin throws a bit of
Stevie Wonder's soul with hip-hop energy.
