Most of the stuff on this page is gotten from Dee Snider's web page. Get more information at http://www.dee.snider.org
News Update: March 1, 1998: Lots of
news to talk about. First, Dee's homepage has moved to www.deesnider.com.
Most of my links still point to the old address, but this is something
I will try to correct soon. Please note the change and adjust bookmarks
accordingly. Second, Dee and the SMF's are contributing a song to
the "Pink and the Black" compilation CD. Here's a link to the album's
homepage. I'll be adding a permanent link in the SMF
Links section soon.
Next, we have the exciting
news that Twisted Sister finally got the rights to rerelease all the old
TS albums so maybe we'll finally see the shelves have more than "big Hits
and Nasty Cuts" and "Live at Hammersmith." Captain Howdy, though,
still orders all TS merchandise direct from Dee Snider's page. It's cheaper,
and it's signed by the man. The rerelease is great for the browsers
and for the fact that we wil probably get the original "Under the Blade",
but for hardcore fans, you just can't beat the deals at Dee's own page.
Go check it out, and mention you heard it from us...
The last news for now is the
best. All of the members of Twisted Sister have gone into the studio
(Thank you, Mark Mendoza for putting your arguments aside for the sake
of the fans. Now if you'll just do the tour....) and finished two
unreleased tracks from the Stay Hungry days. No word yet on if these
will be offered with the new releases of the albums, as an unreleased tracks
album, or if something from this session might pop up on the Strangeland
soundtrack.... I'll let you know when I do.
News Update: February 18, 1998: Not much news to report. I'm in touch with the Sevendust people as we speak to try and find out what they are contributing to the Strangeland soundtrack. I'll let you know when I find out. Also, I'm probably going to regret this, but I'm introducing a new way to get in touch with me to tell me how you like my site. I'm now on ICQ. My ICQ number is 8232900. It'll say Gryphon because that's my handle outside the funhouse. If I'm online, send me a message and tell me how you like my page.
News Update: January 29, 1998: Well,
the overhaul I've been promising is finally here. I've added several
more albums and videos to the discography. You can now read reviews of
the SMF Live album, the Blood and Bullets Live video and Sevendust's self-titled
album. I hope someday to get the Scarecrow album featuring Eddie
Ojeda and the Cities album with Aj Pero and post them too. I've also
added a couple of sites to the SMF links page and deleted the Thunderfest
page since it doesn't seem to be up anymore.
In Dee Snider news, Dee is
in post production on Helltown with a finished target date of the Cannes
film festival where I'm sure it will shock and offend all those artsy fartsy
independant artists. Good. Maybe it'll even stir up Tipper
again and tank Spotted Owl Gore's presidential bid. Ahhh, such pleasant
dreams....
News Update: January 9, 1998: Well, Captain Howdy's Funhouse has officially reached its thousandth hit. Thanks everyone. Big news in the SMF world! Someone has finally put together an SMF mailing list. Go to Dee's site for more details and I'll see you on the list.
News Update: January 3, 1998: Happy New Year to all you SMF's out there from all of us at Captain Howdy's Funhouse. We're doing a bit of remodeling to celebrate our thousandth hit coming soon!!!! The first thing you'll notice if you've been here before is the new counter. It loads faster and is just overall more cool than the other one. Plus it shows an accurate count as opposed to the other that kept reseting itself. Go 1000!! You'll see other changes soon as well as a review of the Blood and Bullets concert video Dee is selling on his page.
News Update: December 23, 1997: First,
an apology from Captain Howdy. It's been almost two months since
I updated the page and that's just too long. It won't happen again.
Several exciting things to tell you about. First, some of you may
have noticed the little Geoguide at the top of my page. I added this
new feature because it allows you to rate my page on a scale of 1-5, so
go rate it! It also stops those annoying little pop-ups that geocities
added recently. It's slightly annoying, but less so than the pop
ups. Just remember, the sponsors up there are Geocities, not mine.
If you don't like them, bitch at them, not me.
Second, if you've been to
Dee's site lately, you have seen a very prominent link to my site.
I would like to thank Iron Road Dave Marfield for doing that for me. Go
check the site out. It's worth the trip.
News Update: October 25, 1997: Hopefully, you all saw the Dee Snider appearance on "Teen Angel" last night. Dee was a riot. I can't wait for Helltown (or Rune or Strangeland or whatever the hell the movie's called today!!). If you didn't get to see it, you can either catch it in reruns or e-mail me begging for a dub. If you want it, we can probably work out a deal. I'll do it for postage and tape cost but would prefer to trade for TS or related audio or video dubs.
News Update: October 24, 1997: A big
congratulations to former Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French.
Sevendust, a band he manages and whose album he co-produced with Mark Mendoza,
is tearing up the charts. It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch
of folks. And besides, these guys truly rock in an age when "alternagrunge"
is dominating the air waves. Best of luck Jay Jay. Check out
Sevendust at their web page and
then go out and buy their album you shmoe!!!!
Also don't forget to set your
vcrs to tape Dee Snider's appearance on ABC's "Teen Angel." tonight.
The show airs at 7:30 pm central time and 8:30 eastern time on ABC.
News Update: October 18, 1997: We here at Captain Howdy's Funhouse are saddened to announce the passing of original Alice Cooper Group guitarist Glen Buxton who died Saturday of pneumonia related complications. I know this isn't Twisted Sister related, but Dee was so influenced by the music of Alice Cooper that I thought it was appropriate to mention here. He was also one of rock's most underrated guitarist. The funhouse flag flies at half mast in remembrance...
News Update: October 2, 1997: Another award for Captain Howdy's Funhouse! Critical Mass is the latest group to deem the funhouse worthy of praise. If you own an award and like what you see, contact me! If you like my site and want to see it grow, nominate it for an award. Every hit not only soothes my ego, but increases Twisted Sister's awareness on the web!
News Update: September 25, 1997: I finally after several weeks wait got my copy of Desperado's "Bloodied But Unbowed" CD from Jart Music. It has now been added to the discography section of my site.
News Update: September 19, 1997: Captain Howdy's Funhouse has been awarded an honorable mention form the Eye Candy Award people. Eye Candy only awards about 15% of its nominees this award! Also, as some of you may have noticed, my damn counter reset last week, so when you're reading Captain Howdy's hits, you need to add the 400 hits you don't see to those you do. We're not done growing yet!
News Update: September 3, 1997: Over 300 hits on the site since the end of July! Thanks everyone. Principle photography on Dee's film (now with the working title Rune) has begun. Go check out the official Dee Snider page for details.
News Update: July 4, 1997: Captain Howdy's Funhouse has been selected as "Totally Awesome Site of the Day" by the folks at the 80's server. To see the award and link to the page, go to my awards page.
News Update: June 29 1997: Finally!!! Dee Snider is back in the saddle with his own syndicated radio program! It's called Dee Snider's House of Hair and it will feature all metal music from the coolest decade for metal, the 80's. As a former (and hopefully future) DJ myself, this is the most interesting piece of TS news I've heard in a while. A bit more info exists on Dee's web site, but not much. Call your local classic rock station (stay away from the sucky sell-out, alterna-grunge affiliates) and bug the hell out of them until House of Hair is on in your town. Now if I can just convince Dee that he needs a long haired, metalhead producer from backwoods Tennesee.... I'll post an affiliate list when I get one.
News Update: June 16, 1997: I've added a link to the web site of Sevendust, the band Jay Jay French and Mark Mendoza co-produced the albums for. Go to my links page to get there. Thanks to Jay Jay and Mad Mike for bringing this band and this web site to my attention.
News Update: June 6, 1997: Things are looking better all the time for a Twisted Sister reunion tour. In an interview with Scream magazine, Dee said that he, Eddie, AJ, and Jay Jay were talking about doing one show in New York after Helltown wraps. Could this be a feeler for a full scale tour? Another tidbit is the revelation that Mark Mendoza will definitely not be a part of the tour. It seems Mendoza is not willing to bury the hatchet (unless it's in Dee's back!). Grow up Mark! This leaves TS looking for a new bassist. Inside track says it's almost certain to be Widowmaker bassist Mark Russell, but this is only speculation and has not been confirmed by anyone in Twisted Sister. Go to my SMF Quiz section to vote on your pick for a new TS bassist. Go to the official Dee Snider web site to read the entire Scream magazine article.
News Update: June 3, 1997. Dee Snider will be one of the featured artists at the Thunderfest '97 tour. A link to the official Thunderfest web site can be reached through my SMF Links page. Click here to get there.
Dee Snider: The most exciting project to report on for Twisted Sister fans is Dee Snider's movie called "Helltown." This movie is the continuation of the "Horror-Teria" song from "Stay Hungry." Advance press says the movie will star the Snide one himself as Captain Howdy. In keeping with the times, Captain Howdy is now an internet stalker who lures little kids into his home and then kills them. The movie should be out early next year and is being produced by the same company that produced the Oscar winning film "Sling Blade."
Dee Snider's bands, both Widowmaker and SMF's, are on hold until Dee completes filming on Helltown. Widowmaker has been rumored to be broken up, but these rumors are denied by Snider. At the moment, Widowmaker has no record deal.
Eddie Ojeda: Eddie Ojeda is also shopping for a record deal for his new band P.O.W. Information on POW, as well as autographed pictures of Eddie at an extremely reasonable price, are available at his web site.
Jay Jay French: Jay Jay French is, among other things, managing several bands. He has joined Dee at a couple of SMF shows and a rumor is floating around the SMF community that he and Dee will soon collaborate on an "unreleased tracks" album. Jay Jay has also produced, with Mark Mendoza, an album for a band called Sevendust.
Reunion Tour?: A couple of years ago, this seemed like a far away dream, but events of late have made it look more like a reality. First, and most important, all members except Mark Mendoza have reconciled their differences. In fact, Jay Jay and Eddie have appeared with Dee onstage during SMF shows.
Second, the time is right for a Twisted Sister reunion. Nostalgia tours are gaining popularity as many people begin to rebel against the current "alternative" trend. Dee's Twisted Sister cover band, SMF's, is selling out shows all over America. Couple this with the imminent release of Helltown, and it's a promotor's dream.
Third, package tours are gaining popularity these days, allowing bands who might not sell out 20,000 seat arenas alone to get together with a couple of other bands and do just that. What metal fan wouldn't shell out twenty bucks to see Twisted Sister co-headline with a Quiet Riot, Ratt, Alice Cooper, or Dio?
That's all the news I have for now. If you have more, mail me at
