Savatage

During the lull in Widowmaker, guitarist Al Pitrelli was hired to replace founding guitarist Criss Oliva for Sava's "Dead Winter Dead."  Since then, he's joined the band full time (although both he and Dee claim he's still very much a part of Widowmaker).  The discography below for Savatage is not complete, but only reflects the albums on which Pitrelli plays.

Dead Winter Dead:  With this album, Savatage underwent a rebirth.  Previously a pretty typical (although still very talented) metal band, Savatage became a progressive rock icon.  Pitrelli's guitars are extremely tight, as are vocals shared by vocalist Zak Stevens and keyboardist and founding vocalist Jon Oliva.  Savatage also begins to experiment with vocal layering on this album, a concept only done successfully by one other band, Queen. Check this album out.  You won't regret it.

Wake of Magellan:  the second Savatage album featuring guitars from Al Pitrelli picks up where the other left off.  Another concept album, this one starts to experiment even more with the vocal layering concept to great effect.  Tight guitars, tight vocals, once again another album not to miss...
