Just to
let you think a little harder how good this team could
have been I'm going to compare position by position this
team to the then World Champion Houston Rockets.
|
Think
back to the 94-95 season, it started with the starting
lineup from the previous page and the Rockets had their's
that won them a championship even two, but would they
have one, or two if the Warriors stayed together, if
Nellie didn't suck, and Webber wasn't such a baby about
things. Here's a glimpse to what could have been.
WORLD
CHAMPION VS. OUR WARRIORS
sorry
couldn't find the old logos.

We start with the point
guard position. You know who we had, probably the
top point guard in the game, the Houston Rockets
had the two headed point guard combination of Sam Cassel and Kenny Smith. No matter which one,
Kenny or Sam, no matter if you had both there
skills in one man we still would have had the
edge, we still would have had one of the best
floor leaders out there, even if he had just came
back from an ACL injury the previous year,
because it was just that, the previous
year.

Well here was a position that we were
going to shine and maybe even dominate. Our man
was a third year player that was just named All
NBA first team, and was on the verge of
greatness. The Rockets had Mario Elie starting, but later in
the year made a trade for Former Houston U. alum,
and now head coach, of his alma mater, Clyde Drexler, but like with the
point guard it didn't matter who you put there
between the two of them, it's the All NBA two
guard all the way. Another point for the boys in
blue (and white).

This May be one of the closest match ups
between the two teams. The Warriors, though they
have a member of the Dream Team, and one of the
great Warriors players of all time, he is also in
the start of a decline in his career, and the
Rockets man, Robert Horry came up big time in the
Finals the year before. But Mully was Mr.
Reliable for the Warriors, at least when he
wasn't hurt. This one's a toss up you pick.
Warriors
2,1 -- Rockets 0,1

Well you have our man, Rookie of the
Year and one of the top Power Forward already in
the game and on the other side you had Otis Thorpe, who went in the Clyde
trade, and then it went to some other guy that
would have no chance of taking on C-Web one on
one either. Yeah Web was one of the reasons they
are the team that they are today, making Nellie
the bad guy. It was Webber that was leaking to
the media that there was bad blood in the
organization, when it was really just him and
Nellie. Well whatever we won that match up, chalk
up another one for us.

3,1 -- Rockets 0,1

Well last but not least you have the
center spot and the man in the middle. Yeah we
got Seikely in a big trade, but they still had
the dream, and the Dream was the Dream and the
MVP. He was the main reason that the Rockets took
the two championships while Jordan was on hiatus
at the White Sox System. But was he good enough
to make for the rest of his starting lineup that
couldn't even compare to the Warriors'. Don't
forget Seikely wasn't no push over either,
well....maybe. But he could have done the job
better than say a Big Victor Alexander or Chris
Gatling.

3,1 -- Rockets 1,1

We
go to the bench, and the Warriors had some fair rookie
and also some great vets. The Warriors had former six man
of the year Rickey Pierce, they still had the
"Energizer" Chris Gatling, they had
"Bones" Carlos Rogers, who showed a lot of
promise as a rookie, who was also the 11th overall pick
in the last draft, and Clifford Rozier who was an All
American in college and the Warriors first pick in the
last draft but, well you know what happened to him....or
do you, where did he go anyway?
But this
Warrior team was stacked like no other team that they had
ever had, at least since the eighties. But too bad they
couldn't keep it together. Too bad there coach turned
into a bum. Too bad that it was a transition year for
Basketball where all the players became soft and couldn't
take getting yelled at by their coach, ala Chris Webber.
He was such a pain yet had so much promise, especially
when he dunked on my Favorite player of all time Charles
Barkely in the playoffs just the year before and had that
grin that no one can forget, and who cares if they got
swept that was something. That was the start of what
would have been it all, a trip right up to the top of the
whole thing. just looking down on the Rockets, the Jazz,
the Sonics, Suns, the Knicks and even the Jordan-less
Bulls. It was and should have been our shot at greatness.
We should be one of the elite teams. We should be in the
same breaths as the Sonics and Rockets in the West, and
even when the Bulls and Jordan came back, we should have
been the team to represent the West and get our asses
beat.
But now we have these
guys...can't even get out of the lottery.
