Review written by Anthony on the FTE Mailing List

Local act Deborah Vial was wonderful live, but her EP is not that great. She does have a strong voice and was fun to watch, so I bought her CD.

Ana Egge was nice with her acoustic guitar, but she didn't have any songs that really stood out. She just stood there and sang, a bit mundane. I think the crowd loved her voice but was bored by what she did [related comparison to shawn colvin follows later]

Bif Naked was fun, loud, and entertaining. She has a garbage/no doubt feel to her music and she was pretty active out on stage. very nice to watch.

Trish Murphy was the first act that really got into her set, i thought. Her rendition of "these boots were made for walking" was spectacular. She can really rock and get the crowd going.

Dido-Overall, she was my favorite of everybody. Her CD kicks major arse, her voice is good love, and those electronica sounds mixed with the turntable was great. She did Hunter with Ash on a second set of bongo drums. She's great.

Mya did a very good job. One of the highlights in my personal opinion. She had a strong voice, some good dancing, and some good tap skills. very nice.

Luscious Jackson was highly active, Jill's voice was great, but the guitarist didn't have much of a voice for live performance. Sarah on Ladyfingers didn't quite fit, IMHO, but the Sheryl Crow harmonica duet was awesome! and sarah playing drums on the last song was great. they got the crowd going.

Then came the major disappoint of the day: Shawn Colvin. it's not that she's not a great artist, but her acoustic set was highly misplaced because people were up and out of thier chairs for Luscious, and Shawn was basically boring us. I was ticked I wasn't in line for Luscious Jackson's autographs.

BUT Sheryl Crow came out to do the evenings most lively performance of anyone. She did a nice setlist doing great songs from every album, a duet with Shawn on "Home". A vamped up versino of All I wanna Do, and a rockin' rendition of There Goes the Neighborhood with luscious jackson hairwhippin and guitar playin'.

then came sarah, who was very unimpressive. of all her liliths from the past three years, this was disappointing. she hurried through it, as though she wanted to get it over with soon. she was done singing her songs by 10.41 and the encore was over by 11.00 and something was wrong with her voice, it was still good, but it was high, sorta like camille's.

overall, my least favorite lilith, mostly 'cause of sarah and shawn. but sarah did have a great time dancing backstage (to the right) to luscious jackson's music. she did the batman dance, the swimmer, all of those old ones. it was hilarious to watch.

so if you can, the standouts to watch are Dido and Trish Murphy who can sing great.
