Review written by Cindy
Lutz, who e-mailed me her
review. Thanks Cindy!
I went to the show at the Sandstone
Amphitheater in Kansas. I knew it would be a great show but, WOW, I
was blown away. We missed alot of the second and third stage acts
because we were checking out all the booths, but Kelly Willis was
fabulous. What a wonderful new talent. The main stage performances
began with Deborah Cox. Although I am not that familiar with her
music, she did have a great voice.
Next came the Dixie Chicks. Even
though I LOVE their music, I never expected them to be so accepted by
a crowd, who I am sure, didn't think they liked country music. Until
now, that is. Everyone was on their feet, dancing, with their arms
waving in the air. You can tell just by watching the Chicks that they
are having the time of their lives up there. Sheryl Crow came out and
played the accordion during one of their numbers and the Indigo Girls
joined in another. Lead singer, Natalie Maines, belted out tune after
tune. Sisters Marti Seidel and Emily Robison jammed on the fiddle and
banjo, respectively.
Then came the Indigo Girls. You could
tell they were a crowd favorite by the thunder of applause as they
were announced. They ROCKED!
Sheryl Crow was next up. I like her
alot, but had never seen her in concert. She was AWESOME!! She was
just having so much fun. The Chicks came out to sing with her and you
could tell that there was a definite mutual admiration society going
on. Sarah McLachlan walked out to join Crow and didn't even need to
be announced before the cheering began. Her entire set was
GREAT.
Rounding out the show was Sarah,
herself. She has one of the most incredible voices in music today.
There is so much emotion behind every note. My personal favorites
were "Adia" and "I Will Remember You".
I think one the things that struck me
the most, was to see all these women crossing musical genres and
putting together friendships that made for the heart and soul of
Lilith Fair. During the final number, you could see Sheryl Crow and
Natalie Maines laughing and pinching each other. Sarah McLachlan and
Kelly Willis singing with their arms around one another. Just alot of
genuine love and admiration going on up on that stage.
DEFINITELY a night to remember!
