A definite thrill ride. Not to espouse political views,
but I find it
sad that the best our country can do for president is Bill Clinton. Why
can't we
have Harrison Ford's character in Air Force One be president? Ford was
born for
this role, and looks very comfortable in this Executive Decision meets
The Hunt
for Red October flick. Ford carries this film with the macho, yet tender
and
distinguished exterior that exudes Ford throughout all his films. Air
Force One is
very good in that it is action-packed throughout, having barely any
lulls in the
film. This is evident right from the beginning when the US sends a
covert-ops
team to dispose a terrorist. The film would be just okay though if it
didn't have
the incredible cast that is shown brilliantly by director Wolfgang
Peterson.
Glenn
Close plays an excellent vice-president who is ballsy and firm in her
decisions,
while at the same time almost second-guessing herself. Dean Stockwell
plays
your resident weasel as the Secretary of Defense whose thrist for power
is so
great he brings in a gentleman to discuss the constitutional
ramifications of the
vice-president remaining in control instead of himself. The best
character though,
other than Ford, had to be the immensely talented Gary Oldman, who
portrays a
great villian in the form of a maniacal Russian radical loyalist (I
know, if its hard
to find a villian in the world, why not make one up?) who justifies his
own
actions by his almost blind, cult-like, deification of a ruthless
Russian general.
This movie is quite a fun time and is a great time if you're really into
political
thrillers (Ford's speciality).
Action-packed and suspenseful throughout,
the film is
really good but not anything that is spectacular or has not been seen in
a
air-hijack film before. What separates this film from its predecessors
in the
air-hijack genre is the brillant cast. You'll definitely have fun
following Air Force
One.
