Aerosmith's History

Aerosmith was one of the most popular bands in the 70's, setting the style and the sound of hard rock and heavy metal for the next two decades.

In 1970, Steven Tyler (vocalist) met Joe Perry (guitarist) while working at an ice cream shop. With Tom Hamilton (bassist) they decided to form a trio. It then expanded when Ray Tabano entered the band, but he was quickly replaced by Brad Whitford. Finally Joey Kramer (drummer) joined.

In 1972 the group won a contract with Columbia Records. Their album was called "Dream On."

In 1977 Aerosmith prepared new material to make their fifth album, Draw the Line; which was a great hit.

When Aerosmith regrouped with new guitarists Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay in 1982, the band released Aerosmith's Greatest Hits; which sold six million copies. Later in 1984, Perry and Whitford returned to the band and the group began a reunion tour dubbed "Back in the Saddle." Early in the tour, Tyler collapsed on stage; he had not overcome his obvious drug and alcohol addictions.

After the release of Done with Mirrors, Tyler and Perry completed a rehabilitation program. In 1986 they released "Walk This Way" that became an amazing hit. This same year the album Permanent Vacation was produced. Some songs this album included were "Dude (looks like a lady)," "Rag Doll," and "Angel." Permanent Vacation reached position 11 in the top 40 and sold over 3 million copies.

Pump, released in 1989, continued the band's winning streak, reaching number five and selling over 4 million copies. Some of the songs were: "Love in an Elevator," "Janie's Got a Gun," and "What it takes." This same year "Deuces Are Wild" was part of The Beavis And Butthead Experience.

In 1993 Get a Grip was produced, featuring "Livin' on the edge," "Cryin'," and "Amazing."

By the end of 1994, Big Ones was recorded. It was an album that included 13 of Aerosmith's greatest hits and some new songs. These songs were: "Walk on Water," and "Blind Man."
