BREAKING NEWS
Everyone loves to spread rumors about what's going on with the band.
So do I. I know I've been a bit out of the loop for quite some time, but finally, here's what I know as of September 10, 2000:
-
Ray Wilson has officially been DENIED a second Genesis album, even though it was part of his original contract. The band is blaming Ray for the lack of success in the United States (but it was really Atlantic's fault for having ZERO promotion). Ray is no longer affiliated with Genesis, other than Calling All Stations and associated tours and outtakes. However, rumors have now sprouted up that Phil Collins may rejoin Genesis for a tour! This rumor comes from Ray Wilson himself, although he may have had it confused with the confirmed rumor that Phil will perform a one-time private show someplace sometime in late September 2000. At this time, who knows for sure.
-
Meanwhile, Ray's band, Cut, is supposedly working on a followup album to their Millionairhead album from last year. The first album was notably successful in Germany. I haven't heard any of it yet, unfortunately, or I'd comment. I really do like Ray's style.
-
The '80s boxed set is slated for November 2000. This will be a three-disc set covering the Phil Collins years from 1976 to 1992, with plenty of live stuff and slight rarities. This is supposed to include a long jam session of Mama, which could be worth the price of admission in itself.
-
Mike and the Mechanics released their M6 album some time ago. I haven't really gotten into it all that much... it has some good moments, but just not the same as the '80s, you know what I mean?
-
Tony is picking his butt somewhere and maybe writing songs about it. What? No solo album? That's what I said. I think Tony is getting old and is extremely frustrated at his non-success in the States. Get over it dude, I'll buy your music, and I know there's plenty of superb stuff left in you!
-
Phil Collins has had some huge success with the Tarzan soundtrack, winning numerous Oscars or Grammys or whatever they are, much to the dismay of the Blame Canada guys, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Tarzan was okay and everything, but I think I'd rather just keep listening to Hello I Must Be Going and pretend Phil didn't exist for the past decade.
-
Peter Gabriel's got some projects going on like Voices of the Real World, which I think was very good, and OVO, which is more instumental stuff like Passion (I still need to get that). I'm still not sure when the Up album might be released, maybe never, seeing as how we've been waiting for it for like five years or something!!!!! What does that "anticipation" word mean again? I've been staring off into the distance for so long that I forgot.
OTHER NEWS AND DETAILS
-
The classic Genesis lineup produced a boxed set entitled Genesis Archives
I: 1967-1975, released in June 1998. It contains four CD's: 1 & 2 are
the live Lamb, 3 has live versions of other favorites, and 4 contains many
rarities, demos, singles, B-sides, mostly from the From Genesis to Revelation
era of the late '60s. Peter Gabriel re-recorded many of his hard-to-hear
vocals for the boxed set, and Steve added a note here and there, but it
was very well done, and only assholes straining themselves can tell the
difference. Just sit back and enjoy. Twilight Alehouse kicks ass!!!! And
Happy the Man. Like a nun with a gun, I'm wonderful fun.
-
As stated earlier, the second boxed set will cover the Phil years from 1976 up to about 1992,
and is scheduled to appear very soon!!
-
For those of you who have been in a coma, in 1997 Genesis produced a
studio album entitled Calling All Stations. For that album, Genesis had the following
lineup:
Tony Banks
Keyboards
Mike
Rutherford
All Guitars
Ray
Wilson
Vocals
Nir
Z
Drummer
Nick
D'Virgilio
Guest Drummer (beginning of Alien Afternoon, If That's What You Need, Uncertain
Weather, Small Talk)

The CAS album was indeed a new beginning for Genesis, the re-Genesis
of Genesis, and I believe they still sound as good as ever, although many
faithful fans feel disappointed about the loss of Phil, and many are STILL
fuckin whining about the loss of Peter and Steve. Anyway... the new material
harkens back to their younger style of slightly longer, slightly darker
pieces, and a bit less pop than had been the case with Phil. This
is due in part to Phil's leaving the band, but also to the subsequent increased
influence of keyboardist/writer/genius Tony Banks, the man behind Oz's
curtain, the man without whom Genesis (in any year) would have been nothing.
On a grading scale from A to F, I give the CAS album an overall grade of
B.

Peter helped to record a brand new version of the Carpet Crawl (not to mention most of the first boxed set). This version is featured on the Hits album which was released in 1999. It includes both Phil and Peter on vocals. Somewhat interesting, I suppose, but not worthy of buying the Hits album just for the one song. It got a decent amount of play in the United States, though, which is pretty cool.
PICS AND WALLPAPER
Here, have some covers and wallpaper themes. I use them in a 1024 by 768 pixel format. I hope you enjoy them.
Finally, here's a cool picture that I created all by myself for a cover to the Dublin boot from the CAS tour, The Red Dress Returns. What do you think? ----->
GENESIS LINKS
-
It appears that the official Genesis web-site has been terminated. Oh well. It was never any good anyway.
-
This site is one of the best. It's got a lot of excellent info, interviews, pictures, sound clips... Visit The Path.
-
For sporadic yet fairly reliable and complete information, visit Gary Best. He always seems to know what's going on.

For an exotic experience through a mind nearly parallel to Pete's, take a little trip back with Volker Tiresias.
This site kicks serious ass!!!!!
-
Visit my music page. I've got links and
pics of lots of bands, progressive and not. I've also compiled a list of everything I have, but it hasn't been updated since about April 1999, and I have a helluvalot to revise.
