PINK FLOYD:THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
This album is a must! The 1973 classic is one of the greatest albums of all
time. It was on the billboard charts for over 14 years straight! No other album
has ever come close! Also, it has sold over 13 million copies world wide. It's
radio friendly. Unfortunately, radio stations can only play one or two tracks at
a time. But they do play all the tracks. Plus it has that memorable prizm cover
which is very cool. Also, listen for little hidden messages and samples
throughout the album. Includes Money, Time, Us and Them,
Brain Damage.
BOSTON:BOSTON (first album)
Boston's first album, self titled, is probably the best hard rockin' album
of the 70's. BOSTON just ROCKS!!!!!! Led by computer wiz kid Tom Scholz, BOSTON
combines high technology, lead vocals backed by two or three harmonies from the
same lead singer( Brad Delp ), melodic lines, and just plain rock and roll fun.
The album is the fourth best selling album of all time. Over 17 million copies!!
!! BOSTON is like Dark Side. If you ever move to a new house, and ,for some
reason, you don't have this album, it should be given as a housewarming gift.
It's very, very radio friendly. All the tracks have been played on the radio
extensively! That's the mark of a good album. Even though this debut album just
ROCKS, remember, they are only "just another band out of Boston!".
Includes:
More Than a Feeling, Piece of Mind, Smokin', Rock And Roll Band .
THE WHO:TOMMY
TOMMY is a very unique album. It was the first, and, as far as I know, the
only album dubbed THE ROCK OPERA. That's the only way to describe it. Basically,
it's about a boy who becomes deaf, dumb, and blind. His parents try to cure him
but to no avail. Then when the mother smashes a mirror the Tommy always "stares"
at, he is cured. It hits the papers and he becomes famous. He becomes a leader
to people who want to follow him. The music is brilliant. There is even a
Broadway show based on TOMMY called "The Who's Tommy". I've seen it twice. It's
AWESOME!! I definately recommend the album and the play. The music is very
melodic and contains memorable "riffs". It used to be sold on two CD's, but now
it's on one! Buy it! Save some money, and you won't be let down.
Includes:Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, See Me Feel Me, Go to the Mirror Boy, We're Not Gonna Take It.
ALICE COOPER:SCHOOL'S OUT
School's out for summer, forever, completely!! Lines from the smash title
track of this rock classic. Alice Cooper was the first guy to do cool stuff on
stage creating the treatrical rock show and becoming "THE GODFATHER OF SHOCK
ROCK"!! This was the fifth album done by Alice Cooper with his original band who
was nothing short of amazing. School's Out combines solid rock and roll with
interesting samples, awesome rhythm section, great bass playing, and a HORN
SECTION! Imagine that. And it works!! Of course, you can't forget about Alice's
ripping vocals leading the album. He also does a little West Side Story in the
album and musically performs a streetfight. Check it out!! Includes: School's Out,
Gutter Cat vs. The Jets, My Stars, Luney Tune, Alma Mater.
At this time, take a few moments
to check out theOracle Service Humor Archives for a couple of good laughs
STYX:THE GRAND ILLUSION
Come sail away with Styx, one of the great rock bands of the late 70's and
early 80's. Styx is one of the more modern sounding bands of the late 70's. Just
listen to the smash hit "Come Sail Away", which includes a "fantasy trip"
keyboard arrangment and you'll see what I mean. This album was a landmark album
for them which really put them on top of the charts. Along with a rich bass and
drum section,a good variety of keyboard sounds, and rockin' guitar, the melodic
voices of Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw make the overall Styx sound nothing
short of perfect. Their original sound of lyrical masterpieces gave many of
their fans a reason to see them live, and Styx does deliver. Despite the title
of the album, the greatness of Styx is far from an "Illusion".
Includes: Come Sail Away, Fooling Yourself, Superstars, The Grand Illusion..
Check out some other people who have
cool stuff on their pages!!!
KANSAS:LEFTOVERTURE
How can a band with such a plain name as Kansas actually be worth listening
to? Well, pick up this 1976 classic album and you will see that it is
definately worth listening to. Kansas takes a classical sound, throws some
rockin guitar licks and killer beats in, interesting keyboards, and delivers an
awesome package. Let's not forget the clear vocals of Steve Walsh and the grand
songwriting of Kerry Livgren. These song were not done overnight. They were
carefully thought out and put together over time hoping their hard work will pay
off. And it sure has. Includes: Carry On Wayward Son, The Wall, Miracles Out of
Nowhere, Cheyenne Anthem, Magnum Opus.
SOUNDTRACKS:DAZED AND CONFUSED, EVEN MORE DAZED AND CONFUSED
These are the soundtracks that everyone will be "toking" about. Dazed and
Confused has got to be one of my favorite movies. In a nutshell, it's the last
day of school, 1976, the incoming freshmen boys and girls get initiated, lot's
of drinking, lots of smoking, lots of hanging out and driving, and party gets
busted and a bigger one is created, friends are made and lost, and decisions
are made. It is filled with characters we all know; the jocks, geeks, stoners,
babes, an accepted freshman, a man in his late 20 who still hangs out with the
high school crowd, etc.. But one thing that stands out is the great rock and
roll of the mid 70's. There were so many great songs throughout the movie, one
soundtrack wasn't enough. These are two of the best 70's rock collections I've
heard which makes them essential. Dazed and Confused includes: Slow Ride, Low Rider, Paranoid, Tush, Rock and Roll All Nite. Even More Dazed and Confused includes: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Right Place, Wrong Time, Summer Breeze, Why Can't We Be Friends, Do You Feel Like We Do.
THE STEVE MILLER BAND:GREATEST HITS 1974-78
Ok, I really didn't want to include greatest hits albums on my page being
that greatest hits albums are supposed to be good, but this is an exception.
This collection from Steve "Guitar" Miller takes the best songs from Fly Like
an Eagle and Book of Dreams, and the classic track The Joker and throws it on
one album instead of having to buy three albums for the songs. It's the most
consistant-selling album Mr. Miller has. Being that the two hit albums sold
millions of cpoies, it was no suprise that the greatest hits collection would
also. Steve Miller; he's a picker, a grinner, a lover, a sinner, plays his
music in the sun, a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker, and get's his lovin on
the run. He's great. Includes Fly Like an Ealge, Jet Airliner, The
Joker,Take the Money and Run, and Rock'n Me.
QUEEN:THE GAME
Queen, led by the late great Freddy Mercury was one of the greatest bands
of the 70's and on to the 80's. Their very diverse attitude toward rock and
roll and ever changing visual image made queen a very listenable band on the
radio. The Game is one of those very listenable albums loaded with classic
tracks and hits that include the spacy title track, the well known catchy
Another One Bites The Dust, the 50's feel of Crazy Little Thing Called
Love,
and the grand Save Me. The rest of the album of lesser known tracks still
rocks hard and is not a disappointment at all. A little more stripped down
than other albums, but a definate classic.
BLACH SABBATH:PARANOID
Paranoid is one of those landmark albums that really helped put heavy metal on the map. Led by one of the masters of metal mayhem John "Ozzy" Osbourne, this 1970 breakthrough album became an instant classic, selling well over a million copies, and helping to catapult the career of Ozzy to legendary status.Includes the FM radio stapleclassic title track Paranoid, the immortal guitar riff work ofIron Man, The driving War Pigs, and the eerie Planet Caravan.
