Björk Guðmundsdottír was born in Reykjavik, Iceland on November 21, 1965. She attended a music school for several years before making her first solo album titled 'Björk'. It covered several Icelandic pop songs and was directed to a young audience. She made this album when she was only 11. From there, she became big in the Icelandic punk scene with groups like Tappi Tikkarass and Kukl. It was with the members of Kukl that she formed the Sugarcubes. The Sugarcubes released four albums, though none of their songs did extremely well in any country other than Iceland. The Sugarcubes separated in 1992 and each member went solo or to another band. Björk found Soul II Soul-founder and Massive Attack collaborator Nelee Hooper and produced 'Debut' with him which became an instant success with the hit "Human Behaviour". Debut shot to top spaces all over the world the highest in Sweden, Australia and Great Britain. By the time 'Post', her second album came out, 'Debut' had sold over 5 million copies worldwide. 'Post' was recorded in the Bahamas, on the beach. So far it has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and is still on the top of the charts in the UK as well as other countries.

SMALL Personal Bio: Björk's mother is Hilda and her father's name is Gudmundur. Hilda is a spiritual practitioner and has a music album out as well. Björk has one son, Sindri by ex-Sugarcube guitarist Thor. She was married to Thor briefly before the Sugarcubes broke up. Currently, Björk resides in London. She moved there in 1993, just after the release of 'Debut' to be closer to her music company and studios. She says she is very allergic to the color purple.
