Theodore Robert Bundy

Theodore Robert Bundy was one of the most "typical" serial killers ever in the United States. He is the serial killer that brought the U.S.A. to realize a future problem forming and therefore develop a major interest in serial killers.

What I meant by "typical" in the first sentence is that he fit the average profile for a serail killer: white, male, in his late 20's to early 30's, and also had typical childhood problems.

Many people seem to believe that serial killers kill victims that generally look the same. That is rarely true. Serial killers kill who they feel like at the time. Now I'm not saying they kill ANYONE, but usually people with typical traits of someone they have a hate for.

Such as Ted, he killed women with long brown hair parted in the middle, but only because that is one trait of his former fiance, who left him in his early 20's.

When Ted was born, his family was embarrassed by the young age of his mother, so the family posed Ted as the sister of his real mother until they moved. But, before they moved, family members feel that his grandfather had traumitized him at a young age, possibly striking the start of his rampage. At a young age, Ted had a fascination with knives, which he often used to mutilate animals. (Mutilating and torturing animals is an early characteristic of many serial killers).

Now living in Tacoma, Washington, Ted's mother married a cook, named Johnnie Bundy. Ted was forced to live a social class lifestyle, resenting it all the time. His resentment for such a childhood stayed with him troughout his life.

Throughout Ted's highschool years, he dated occasionally. (Don't forget he was still resenting his lifestyle) All throughout his life, starting (I believe) when he was born, he had a growing and growing destruction side to his life. Serial killers do not just begin to kill overnight, they have a growing need until it is finally triggered, usually around their late 20's. That goes for Ted too. He probably knew he was a little bit abnormal, but he had no idea that he was going to commit a total of at least 28 murders. (Don't forget that the term "serial killer" wasn't developed in the way it is today. Therefore murder wasn't nearly as common as today.)

As Ted became an adult, his monsterous side was still developing. As charming as he was, as nice and kind as he was, no one could have ever guessed who he really was. He hid his personality, deceiving hundreds of people... He never stopped being a "normal" person around others, except his victims-- the only people to see the real Ted Bundy.

He easily tricked his trusting victims by merely slipping a fake sling over his arm, making them feel pitty for "the poor man with a broken arm trying to lift an old chair into the dumpster". He then had them right where he wanted them... He had total power over them, which amused him greatly. There was no chance for the poor deceived girls.

Although one did escape-- Carol Da Ronch. Carol brought Bundy down. It all started with her when Ted went to the Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Utah, dressed as a cop. He told Carol that her car was seen being robbed. He asked her to go with him to file a complaint (about what!?!). Somehow (once again deceiving a trusting individual), he got her to go with him to his VW Bug, by which he drove her to a grade school and attacked her visciously, trying to slip handcuffs on her. Carol knew it was fight or die. She chose to fight.

She somehow got the door open, while he somehow cuffed her right wrist. She took a wild scratch at his face. Then, her attacker pulled out a small firearm, putting it to her head and yelling: "If you don't stop screaming, I'll blow your brains out."

Carol thought it was over, that she had no chance. But as he clung to her, she happened to fall out the car door, pulling him too. He dropped the gun on the way, luckily. But he could still reach inside his car, from which he pulled out a tire iron. As he held it above her head, ready to beat her to death, she grabbed it and threw it from his arms. Then, with a wild kick to his crotch, Ted Bundy's victim was loose. She quickly ran, finding a car, getting help, and one day defeating Theodore Robert Bundy.

This was not Ted's last victim, he got away with what he had done. The law enforcements stupidly let him go on to murder. But when he was finally brought to court under the conviction of murder, Carol stepped in and told the court the whole story.

By the end of Ted Bundy's rampage, he let his anger and need to kill overtake him. He stopped being smart and deceptive, but rather stupid and monsterous. One of his last attacks was the Chi Omega sorority house, in which he ran through with a log, beating girls, and murdering two. As he visciouly attacked them, he also bit them. The bite marks on the buttocks of one girl were also used in court, matching his dental records, and clenching the prosecution victory.

As you can see, Ted was a genius. He used his deceiving mind in the wrong way, and he let his ever-growing rampage defeat him...

(I think the state of Florida made a mistake of putting him to death. The US had so much to learn from him, possibly enough to stop some other killers on the way. But I do understand the grief of the victims' families, and they got there way when he died. Yet, even they must feel that he could have been used greatly by law enforcement in the US.)
