Crank!

existence. Heard of bands like Mineral, Cursive, etc.? Think Crank. Based
in Santa Monica.
Ebullition
Records Just about the most influential record label
in the world of hardcore this side of the fence opposite sXe, crust, and
pornos, Kent McClard runs the joint dealing out 45s, 33s, and digital from
the arsenal in Goleta. It is also home of that cruddy hardcore zine, Heartattack.

Phyte Records
This kick-ass hardcore record label is doin' it for the kids! Yeah! This
Santa Barbara-based label's site also hosts Phyte Fanzine, Dim Mak Records,
and the Pickle Patch in Isla Vista. SB has a longstanding tight-as-Peter
Pan's-pants community and Phyte exemplifies a small fraction of that energy.
Revelation
Records Keeping it up since the old skool days when
bands like Youth of Today and Sick of it All ruled the Earth, Rev Recs
have been selling the straightedge kids the goods they need to bounce around

the good ol' American town of Huntington Beach.

crusade to save hardcore from mediocrity! Strategm is a bundle of things:

homebase in Santa Barbara.

techno, and JUNGLE. Note: Raymond Roker-editor LOVES jungle. Ah yea...
Bleeding
Hearts Pretty much an incomprehensible website for
an almost equally bewildering art zine. Based in L.A.
Giant

pop-culture from an Asian-American perspective.
Grip
Media Free classified ads zine for kids; dj
equipment, snowboards, video games, personals, etc.

real cool shoe styles next to DC, eS, Etnies...I guess they're all damn
good.

well.

Comic Books
Banzai
Anime Just about the best and one of the few anime
stores in Los Angeles, this place carries many domestic Japanimation (anime)
releases on video for sale or rent, lots of anime soundtracks on CD, import
games, posters, models, toys, etc. To say it plainly: THEY KICK ASS.
UCI
Anime Located on the campus of UC Irvine, this kickass
anime store/mailorder carries a massive amount of import anime shit straight
from Japan. They also have a good selection of domestic tapes for rental.
Meltdown
Comics One of the cooler comic book stores in L.A.,
this place on Sunset Blvd. has lots of older and vintage toys and of course,
comic books.

Santa Monica Community College. Received at 89.9FM in Los Angeles.

The college radio station of Loyola Maramount. Has frequent live performances.
Well-known for its exposure of independent music, especially the various
mutant offsprings of punk rock. Received at 88.9FM in Los Angeles.
KLON
The only radio station I personally listen to--this is the best jazz station
in L.A. coming to ya direct from CSU Long Beach funded by the diehard listeners
of good jazz. Fuck that contemporary bullshit on the Wave or whatever the
hell it comes from. Received at 88.1FM.
KSCR
USC's Radio Station received at 104.7FM in Los Angeles.
KSPC
Pomona College's infamous and notoriously ecletic radio station received
at 88.7FM received better in Pomona. I gather it has the same type of promotion
and support as KCRW.
KLA
UCLA's pathetic radio station serving primarily nerds in the dorms thru
Century Cable but word has it that they now have a receiver with reception
up to one mile! Can you believe this fuckin' shit?! Well, it's received
at 91.9FM if anyone cares to know. They used to have good djs but they
all jumped ship.
KALX
UCB's model college radio station is the best college radio station in
the world. After all, the kids here are fighting for something more than
faster drive-thru lines at McDonald's slaughterhouses. Received at 90.7FM
in the revolutionary city of Berkeley.
Free
Radio Berkeley This legendary independent radio station
defies the FCC's secret police tactics in the name of free speech and serves
as a model for all micro-broadcasters. Support Stephen Dunifer and his
cause at 104.1FM in the greater Berkeley/Oakland area!
