Weezer, Superdrag, Jimmy Eat World Join Pixies Tribute

August 25, 1998 - Rocktropolis.com Weezer, Superdrag, and Jimmy Eat World are the latest additions to Where Is My Mind: A Tribute to the Pixies, the tribute to Boston's underground heroes now tentatively slated for a February 1999 release on Hermosa Beach, Calif.'s Glue Factory label.

Both Eve 6 and the Jesus and Mary Chain have been approached about recording for the album, but are not yet confirmed. "I went straight to Weezer, and Rivers called me back to say they'd do it," says Kevin Knight, executive producer of the album and the head of Glue Factory. "I'm a huge Weezer fan. That made this the record I would buy, if I wasn't putting it out."

Superdrag was even easier to bring to the mix: they went ahead and recorded "Wave of Mutilation" before they even confirmed that they would contribute a track. They've also played the song as part of their live set of late.

The other songs already recorded for the album are Weston's take on "La La Love You," and Letters to Cleo's version of "Debaser," which Knight says "is amazing, it's incredible." Alterna-geeks Nada Surf, Michigan's Getaway Cruiser, and punk mainstays Samiam are among the other bands planning to give their interpretations of the Pixies. "I've told [the bands] to destroy a song and make it your own," says Knight. "These are the best bands I could want on one record."
