Veruca Salt's Nina Gordon Quits

March 2, 1998 - Rocktropolis

Even days after the announcement that Nina Gordon, one of the two lead singers and main songwriters in Veruca Salt, has quit the band, there is still no clear reason why.

"Nina Gordon has left Veruca Salt and the future of the group is uncertain at this point," is all a Geffen spokesperson would say. Geffen got the word late last week, and would only release this statement to those who asked. "It is too early for us to remark any further. We're not comfortable with making a statement until they are," the spokesperson told us.

Technically, though it would be a surprise, Veruca Salt could go on without Gordon. Gordon's partner in crime, Louise Post, is also a solid songwriter and lead singer, and Gordon apparently isn't in a position to take the Veruca Salt name with her. But the Chicago Sun-Times reports that both Gordon and Post had been considering recording solo albums already as well. And meanwhile, the band's somewhat new drummer Stacy Jones has been so bored on his downtime with Veruca Salt that he's returned to his former band, Letters to Cleo, to play a few dates behind the kit with them lately. Veruca Salt's most recent album is Eight Arms to Hold You, which had a bit of a hit with "Volcano Girls." They've been spending some quiet time at home after concluding that record's supporting tour.
