Blur at Münchenbryggeriet, Stockholm 11 February 1999.
When I came there I was full of expectation. Were they going to play good this time? What if someone had got a cold? I had waited for weeks on this and now finally…
I have heard them live plenty of times, on radio and such, but somehow I’ve always managed to miss the opportunities to see them live. So this was my first time. And it was well worth my money. I found it great! I know a lot of people thought they played to many new songs and I’m obliged to say the same. They did their whole new album except for two songs (Battle & Optigan 1), and the encore included ‘Beetlebum’, ‘There’s no other way’, ‘Popscene’ and ‘Song 2’. After ‘Song 2’ they left stage for this time. Hopefully they’ll be back, soon.
I did have a great time, even though I was pushed around and hardly saw anything, one disadvantage of not being very tall. I did get a fairly good spot from somewhere in the middle anyway. This was my first day out in the open after having a bad cold with fever, and people told me to take it careful. I didn’t really, and I can tell it was worth not speaking normally the day after just to scream along with Damon and the others in ‘There’s no other way’. Which leads me to what to say, there’s no other way to do it. This was the way, and I don’t really care what other people think. As long as I’m happy shouldn’t that be enough? If other people aren’t I don’t care, cause the image of Damon on the guitar singing ‘Tender’ and Graham singing his ‘Coffee and TV’ will be one of the best memories I have.
Oh, and for you guys who haven’t seen them live, or even seen them in the real world, I’ll tell you it’s something all right. Damon and the guys are as good looking in the real world as in pictures on your computer or bedroom wall. Maybe even better…Woohoo!!!
