By 1966 Jimmy had played on literally hundreds of London sessions. At one session in 1966 a violinist idly asked Jimmy if he had ever tried a bow on the electric guitar. Jimmy borrowed a bow and had a go. Out of the
Gibson Black Beauty came a long, sonorous electro-drone on the bass string and unearthly piercing cries on the higher strings.
The neck of the guitar isn't curved, so he could "play" only two strings, but when Jimmy irritated the bow across all six strings, wild whoops and great blats of noise emitted from the amplifier. It was an obviously dramatic devise, and Jimmy started to play around with it.
