Chapter 1

By Lauren

It was a stormy May morning. The rain was falling like a blanket through the sky. Rachel had been celebrating her 21st with friends the night before, and of course she had had a little bit too much to drink, leaving her with a headache the next morning. Although it wouldn't be her birthday for another week or so, her friends had wanted to throw her an early party. They had done this partially because Rachel was also on her way to Florida that day, just on the outskirts of Orlando, for her first job since graduating college. She had become part of a large entertainment firm, Multimedia Productions, that was asking for a makeup artist, and fast, so she was willing to move for her "big break."
Although she felt as if her head was about to explode, Rachel knew she unfortunately had a long flight ahead of her, so she took a couple of aspirins and shook it off. She gave everyone a hug as she bundled up to face the cold weather.
"Good-bye everyone!!" she called, as she ran to the taxi, "I'll phone as soon as I get there!"
"I can't wait to get to the warm beaches of Florida," Rachel thought as she climbed into the cab.
As soon as she got to the airport she had to practically run through customs to catch the plane, since the cab had gotten stuck behind a huge tractor, which had seemed impassable, and had moved at an incredibly slow rate. This event had caused Rachel to be an hour late and in quite a rush. But the flight went smoothly and she ended up sleeping a little.
She arrived at her new, two story apartment the company had picked out for her, at around 9 o'clock that night. The apartment, among other things, were I guess you could say "gifts" from Multimedia as a way of thanking Rachel, if you will, for moving such a far distance, in such short notice, (2 weeks actually.) The funny thing is that the company never actually told her what she would be doing exactly, or who she would be working for; this being because they wanted Rachel in Florida or something before they let her know. It was a little odd, I suppose, but she had a meeting with the VP at Multimedia the next day, so everything would be known then.
Her new home was very cosy and cute, with a little kitchen in the back, a dining room, a guest room, and a big open living room with a large bay window, overlooking the city. It also had a twisting staircase leading up to the bedroom and bathroom. Rachel had no desire to climb these steep stairs with the small amount of strength she had left, so she plunked down on the couch, and fell asleep 5 mins later.
