Chapter 14
Kevin went and picked up
Shannon...right next door, around 8. They were going out for coffee before hand so Kevin
could talk about what was on his mind.
"Hey
handsome" Shannon called from the front door as she locked it. Her and Kevin had
become good friends as soon as she came to live next door, after winning the Orlando
lottery; $45 million. They treated eachother as brother and sister and Shannon knew just
as much about Kevin as Brian did, if not more.
"Hey beautiful" he replied, returning
the compliment.
"So which coffee house are we going to tonight?"
"Gloria
Jean's"
"Ohh Gloria Jean's. I thought you didn't like it there ever since you found that
moldy coffee bean in your cappuchino"
"Yeah well they gave me a certificate for a
free one because of it, so that's what I'm using tonight."
"Oh, I see" she
laughed.
It took about 10 mins to get to the coffee house and they took a booth in the
back so Kevin wouldn't be so easily recognized.
"So I haven't talked to my favorite
Backstreet Boy in while. How is he?"
"He is confused and in need of your wonderful
advice"
"Oh how did I know. What would you do without me Kev?"
"I don't
know Shay, I don't know"
She laughed and pinched Kevin's cheek affectionately.
"You're such a cutie. So what's up?"
"Well, there's this girl"
"A love interest. I
had a feeling this is what our conversation would be about"
"Yeah"
"So..what's
her name, and what's the problem?"
"Her name is Lauren and the problem is, is that I
think I blew my only chance I had to get to really know her"
"Well how did you do
that?"
Kevin paused before taking a deep breath and going into the long story about
the night of the party.
"So you were the girl's knight in shining armor. I mean if you
weren't my best friend and you did that for me, I would have gotten out of the bed, ran
down to your room, and jumped on you"
Kevin just threw his head back and laughed.
"Well if things don't work out for me and Lauren, I'll remember you said that"
"You
know I think your irresistible"
"Do you now?"
"Weelll not quite as much as your
cousin, and maybe not as much as Brad, but your still on the top of my list"
"Are you
still dating that dork?"
"Brad's not a dork!!"
"He's completely weird. The man
carries a pocket protector. Look at yourself Shannon. You could get any man and you
know it. If you would have given me a chance when I went in pursuit of you, then we
wouldn't be talking about Lauren or Brad right now"
"I couldn't date you! I was in
love with Brian then!"
"Yeah yeah, the relatives always hit you where it hurts"
"Oh
stop, you know your family is wonderful"
"I know I know"
"So look. About
Lauren. I think that you just need to make the second date, a real date. Like dress up a
little, bring her flowers, make her dinner or something. Make it classy. I know you're an
expert at being romantic. And by the way, you almost had me in love with you that night
you serenaded me from beneath my bedroom window"
Kevin slapped his forehead in
embarrassment "I can't believe I did that!! And it didn't even work! You called the cops
on me Shay!"
"Sweetie, that was to get you back for doing it the first time Brian
slept over. You knew he was there, and you wanted to completely ruin the mood"
"I
did not!!!"
"Oh yes you did mister. His car was parked in the driveway. You knew very well
that Brian was over"
"Ok, so
maybe I was a little jealous but I really did love you then"
"You don't anymore?" she
said, pretending to pout.
"Of course, you'll always be my girl. Just I got my eye on
someone else now"
" I'm glad I'm appreciated"
"So you really think that plan of
yours will work? I mean what if she laughs in my face?"
"Since when have you been
so unsure of yourself Kev? Of course it will work. If the looks don't get the girl, charm her
with your skills"
"You think she thinks I'm unattractive?"
"Oh shut up! Now
you're just fishing for compliments"
Again Kevin chuckled "Oh Shannon, you're too
much. Well we better get going" he said glancing at his watch.
"Where are we going
again?"
"The Mix"
"Well we don't want to be late." Shannon jumped up and
grabbed her coat. Kevin took one last sip from his mug "That coffee is
terrible"
"Hey everybody this is my boyfriend Nick from the Backstreet Boys!!"
Korrie shouted as she made her grand entrance into the small room of people, pulling
Nick behind her. Nick rolled his eyes
"Kor, can you not always tell people that I'm
from the Backstreet Boys. I mean why not just say this is my boyfriend Nick"
"Oh
Nick, you're so modest"
All the girls that heard Korrie's introduction ran over to them
shouting questions and holding things out for Nick to sign. He had been conned into
coming to a party with her that didn't look too exciting. There were a couple people
smoking in a corner, a habit Nick despised, a few couples "making out" on the couches
and a group of people watching a movie which looked like "Scream" and were drinking
beers.
"Oh god!! What the hell am I doing here?!" Nick screamed to himself. Why
did Korrie always bring him to things that he didn't want to go to? And more importantly
why did he put up with it? He couldn't understand it, except for the fact that he was
infatuated by her looks. She was just so beautiful and he couldn't stop wondering when
he would finally be able to be alone with her, just him and her, so they could finally....get
down to business.
"Come on honey, I want you to meet some of my
friends"
"Ok" he sighed, as they headed over to the group of people watching the
movie.
"Ok that's Porky, or Tom if you prefer" she said, pointing at an overweight
guy wrapping his mouth around a huge sandwich "Umm Kurt, Luke, Seth, and
Paul"
All five guys looked up with disinterest, and obviously had no idea Nick was
famous, because they immediately went back to snuggling with their girlfriends, or
watching the movie, or eating a sandwich in Porky's case.
"And those 3 girls over
there are my best friends ever..Colleen, Jenny, and Erin" The girls didn't even bother to
look up and acknowledge Korrie, and Nick felt a little bad for her since she looked kind
of hurt. But she almost immediately snapped out of it and became cheerful and bubbly
again. She plopped down on the floor next to a bowl of chips, so Nick did the same, and
reached for one of the snacks.
"Ah ah, Nick. No junk food. Remember, we
talked about that special diet I'm going to put you on. You don't want to have me be
known as "that girl with the fat boyfriend do you"?"
Nick blushed at her scolding. He
heard a few snickers from the guys behind him, but tried to ignore it.
Korrie just
smiled at her victory over Nick and rested her head on his shoulder. He tried to focus on
the movie, but really didn't want to be there at all. Some how he needed to find a way to
convince Korrie to let him go home early, but as he noticed the look of determination on
her face, and felt her strong grip around his arm, he knew it was going to be a long night.
