Not a very big town at all. Mostly full of railroad tracks. It has somewhat a logging industry. This takes over most of the town. Notice the Wishkah River.

Life in Aberdeen

Life in Aberdeen was very hard for Kurt. He enjoyed most of his early child-hood in the small town. However, after his parents divorce, he "became aware of the surrounding, which had nothing to offer." Sad, but true, Kurt would have to live with this kind of "out-casted" life-style until he moved out into Seattle. His out-casted life was being called gay. In small towns, many people are afraid of something "different." Kurt was considered "different." The problem though, was that most of the people where "homophobic, sexist, racist."

Chris's life in Aberdeen was not much easier. He moved to Aberdeen in 1979, in his late teens and lived there for a while. His family moved from a nice, sunny suburban from California. The reason, because of properties rates were sky rocketing. Chris was an "out cast" too. He was tall, and skinny. Also, like Kurt, did not like the same kind of Top-40 music most of the civilians liked. Chris moved to Croatia for a year in 1980. His parents were worried about his depression.

What is this school Kurt and Chris went to?

School life, as stated in the above paragraphs, both were not easy for Kurt or Chris. Kurt was the anti-social type. Typically, he would "read just to avoid people." Chris was a little more on the "social" side. He would go to parties and have a good time. To other people that is. He didn't like it very at all. Still, he was a party animal.

Not a very big school is it? That was the problem with it. The school was small, filled with two kinds of people, the regular ones, or the rednecks. Alternatively, the outsiders containing nerds and essentially people like Kurt and Chris. In addition, Buzz Osbourne from the Melvins went there. Shelli, (Chris's future wife at the time) also went there. Kurt was also on the wrestling team. Hence, the idea that he did not like sports. His father pushed him towards it.

Memorable Moments in Aberdeen

The Pissed Little Boy with His Jaw Wired Shut

Starring: Chris Novoselic, Mark Lukin, and Buzz Osbourne

Lukin remembers stopping by with Osborne on the day of the operation. They rang the doorbell over and over again, but nobody answered. Then they tossed some pebbles at Chris's window. "Just as we were ready to give up," says Lukin, "the window slides open and he had this huge head, it was totally swollen up--he almost looked like a fat oriental baby. It was like an elephant man coming up to the window." Chris was mad because they'd woken him up from his anesthetized sleep. His jaws were tightly wired shut, yet he still managed to communicate something to his friends, "You fuckers!" he cried.

The Wrestling Match

Starring: Kurt Cobain, Don Cobain

Kurt decided to get back at his dad. He and his opponent walked onto the mat and got in position while Don sat in the bleachers, rooting for his son. "I was down on my hands and knees and I looked up at my dad and smiled and I waited for the whistle to blow," says Kurt, "just staring straight into his face and let the guy pin me. You should have seen the look on his face. He actually walked halfway through the match because I did it like four times in a row." Don doesn't remember that episode either, but Kurt says the incident resulted in one of the times he had to move out of the house and live with an aunt and uncle.
