I would have had this page updated a few days before this, however since it is constantly updated (and the fact that it had some things to work on), I decided to give it a shot now. What has changed? Well, like in most updates I do of this page, it's the graphics. The main page, for one thing. You have a black background with an image map of Kurt sitting down.
Now, not a lot has changed tremendously per se. But I'll let you know that each section has an image map. Therefore, it should be a little better looking. Here's the interesting thing about this page. It has the tabs and lyrics together. Not literally. Let's say you are looking at the tabs/lyrics for "Lithium," you decided you want to look at the lyrics/tabs for that song, just click on the hyperlink which is on the song title and you'll go there.
Another exciting feature about this page is the screen themes. Of course, I have metioned the startup/shutdown screens numerous times. But it offers a file that, if you want to change it back to the default settings, you can do it that way. Remember kids, don't mess with your registry if you don't know what your doing! However, to be on the safe side, back up your important files before doing anything like that. Okay idea time: why don't we have Nirvana desktop themes or screen savers...hmm.
This page also has Network links. But before you get a lawyer my friend, this page is also part of the Network. With permission, he asked to put up the links. I agreed -- and what a fine job he's done. He has also put up their page address, and their ICQ number if that applies or what not. Tables would look a little better with colours. In addition, this page has added some things about the Jag-Stang.
Final Analysis
This page, as you can see from all the updates I have done, has been busy being updated. Is this page any good. Most definetly. It's growing quite steadily in all areas, although some originality wouldn't hurt a bit, which it does have somewhat.
From past reviews this page still has great sound and multimedia files. You most likely will not be dissapointed with the ideas the page keeps coming up with.
This time around, the graphics has changed tremendously. There are no frames to this page, but it has deleted the drummer jokes, but it has added some things. One of those added things are the 'Fans Cover Nirvana.' Which these files are in Real Audio format, the rest is self-exclamatory. It has improved on the sound clips section, which has MP3 and WinAmp files. All the sections has changed somewhat, because of the major graphics change in the main page. I noticed that it does not have a 'Home' button on the fake frame. In the Real Audio clips section, the songs are 30 second in length, but a good variety nonetheless, in all the sound sections, it does have some rare ones. The links section is not the best part of the page, but it does have a few good links. In the section 'Misc.' you will find FAQs and other informative resources, but nothing new.
Conclusion
I think it has done a good job with the graphics, and noteablly, the sounds. If it continues to grow in that direction, it will do fine. But it is important to stick with content, such as interviews and articles, but if it wants to continue in the multimedia road, that's okay. The text are at least readable now.
Not many changes concerning the graphics on this page. You will find, however, that the box has changed a little bit to make it more easier to look at. Instead of the picture of the band, it has several pictures with Kurt with the Captain America shirt on.
Another difference is that he has his own bootleg section know, and you can view his list and trade if you want. Again, I must complain about how small some of the fonts are.
Conclusion
I am glad this page has not lost its touch. I hope it keeps on updating.
Review
For those of you who do not know, Captian America was a band from England that Nirvana liked. When Nirvana became mainstream, Kurt thought it would be a good idea to give some publicity to underground bands they liked, hence Captian America. You have probably noticed Kurt wearing the shirt quite a few times. Well, someone decided to make a page with that name, and what comes with the page is a pretty long list. You will see a picture of Kurt with the Captian America shirt on, and you get a charted list. In addition to that, you will find the Captian America logo on the background.
The lyrics, containing all the albums, go pretty much like this. You get a set list of all the song tracks, and let's say for example, you were in Bleach, and you wanted to see the lyrics to "Downer," well, you don't want to scroll down to the bottom to see it right? Just click on "Downer" and there you go. :) You can also click "Back To Top" and it'll take you back to the top of the list. The Meanining of Most Nirvana Songs is a typical section in today's Nirvana page. I was kind of dissapointed it didn't have the same things as the lyrics. :) But that isn't too important; the fact of the matter is, it does show the songs, but it isn't too organized.
The guitar tabs section is basically like the lyrics section, minus the "easy find" link, it does have all the tabs, and for those of you who find it hard to read, you shouldn't have a problem here. We should all know Kurt's Equipment FAQ (v. 1.3) by now, but incase you are one of those people who do not, you will find it here. The Bass Tabs are OK, I don't know if they are all the songs, however, it should help you out somewhat if you are interested in some songs. The Drum Tabs go directly to the well-known Drum Tabs page. Speaking of drums, we should also know the Dave Grohl drummer jokes, but again, if you don't know them you will also find it here. You will find the Nirvana FAQ (v. 5.0) here.
There's not too much of a need for the Concert Chornology, it's already listed in the FAQ, but in most cases if you don't want to go through the whole FAQ trying to find it, then you should come here though. Again something you will find in the FAQ: the timeline. This is a lot neater than the FAQ, which it is in a chart going horizontally. Although I don't know what this means, you will find the 8 Fragments for Kurt Cobain here. Neatly organized, there is the Meaning to In Utero symbols, and you shouldn't have a hard time knowing them after you read this.
The Real Audio files is pretty impressive. You'll find a couple of rare songs here and there. You can also download Real Audio if you don't have it already. Another section, a little more impressive, is the movie section. The Modules, at first, I didn't know the name, but it turns out they are MP3 and WinAmp files, all from Nirvana Totally Unplugged (page).
The Windows screens are pretty nice. You get 3 for the following sections: Kurt Cobain, Krist, Dave, band, and other themes that are not made by him, the thing is, you get the see them before you download them, so it does save a lot of room. :) The chat room is pretty easy to go to, it's brought to you buy some company you can get it for your page, and it's free. It is pretty neat, and organized. The message board is sort of the same way. It's in (dark and light) gray. There are are few topics there, so I think you should post some up.
This page also gives you the address to the Nirvana News Group (alt.music.nirvana). The links are not too bad, but you really will not find anything here. But if you forgot the address to one, or whatever, you can find a couple here with some banners. In addition, you can add your own page just by filling out the form. You can also see the webrings he's in; the awards he's won; and you can send him e-mail and sign his guestbook.
The Good
This page is pretty easy to get around to, you won't have a hard time getting through this page. The sound and movie sections offers a lot of stuff. Let's not forget the easy, clean, and organized chatroom. The frontpage is pretty organized, just a simple picture with charts to where you want to go. This is a no-winner as in frames or no frames. The frames are at the top if you go to that part, and the banners are at the bottom, not a great difference here except if you click on something you can just keep going around the site instead of going back to the frontpage and getting those advertisements. The lyrics are exceptional, and you won't have a hard time getting through that.
The Bad
The organization, for the most part. There are a few mispelled words here and there, and the frontpage could offer a little bit more than what it does. This page has a lot, but not a lot of original things.
Conclusion
A site worth visiting if you have some time on your hands. Look around--it's pretty nice and informative. The lyrics are great to look at, and you can listen to a few Real Audio/MP3 files while watching a movie and looking at the wonderful screensavers. :)
