Aero Zeppelin: The Ultimate Nirvana page Reviewed on November 10, 1998 @ 11:11 PM EST It is rather an unbiased idea for a page to name it with "the" and some form of an adjective. Thus stating that it is clearly better than others. Perhaps it is just another form of advertisement. Only to attract visitors to the site, and there is no such intention of harming other pages to an extent. Hopefully one of the things you have learned in your life is that all advertisements are not true. Or, they do not give out everything that the consumer should know. And this also applies to Nirvana websites as well. Is it a bad idea to visit only certain pages? Not at all. But that would be like only hanging out with a certain group of people. You only get their perspective. In a sense, you must get a lot of perspectives to get a good one. Graphics | Information | Multimedia | Miscellaneous | Conclusion I am one of the believers in simplicity in a page. I'll even admit that this page is a little too simple in terms of graphics. But what you must remember is that pages have a meaning, and graphics only fulfill a minimal part of the whole concept of the page. Frames should definitely be the last resort in creating a page. What are some of the disadvantages of frames? Ever tried visiting a page just after you visited a page with frames? It seems like that pages is trying to monopolize your monitor. In the frames look like a stack of leaves, the main column contains a black background. The graphics on this page are rather simple, but it could be better.
Oh yes, this page has a frameful of information. Any new information would be helpful. Don't bother going to the News section if you haven't heard anything about the new album (or box set) that is supposed to released in a year or so. In the Lyrics, you have the regulars there, which does not include Hormoaning. Hmm, it would be nice to have singles included..next you have the Tabs. Two sections for the guitar and bass, but no drum tabs. The only thing you won't find in the bass tabs that you will in the guitar tabs are the b-sides and rare songs. What you get is a simple layout, no anchors, no guides to help you out. Then we have the Nirvana FAQ v. 5.0. A nice Links section, but more than likely half of those pages are not really there. Then there's 15 Articles, most of them you have probably seen/heard of before. Also included are the ever so regular Discography and (Concert and Timeline) Chronologies. I found myself very displeased with the Pictures. It only has 15 pictures, and it claims to be "under construction." There are 5 sound files from Wishkah and only 3 from Unplugged. All are in '.au' format. The length is unavailable. Did I just see the "Under Construction" thing again? There's more Video files though. But don't expect to get much of anything, infact I tried a few myself, but some links did not work while others went to MTV. All of the videos are in QuickTime format. The Mailing Lists does what it says it does. It has many links to a lot of mailing lists, more than I ever thought there were. However, judging from the age of this page, there's no promises that most of them are still there. Clicking on the Newsgroups will open up your default e-mail program and bring you to alt.music.nirvana. Then there's the "Cool Stuff." First and foremost there's the Windows 9x theme; Windows 9x icons and the Nirvana font. Anyone who is new to Nirvana pages may want to take it easy with this route, first. Over time you can adapt to the basic stuff as well as principles of Nirvana pages, then you can advance to greater pages. A lot of faults, but also a lot of strengths in this page. As Charlie Brown would say, "Good grief!" |
