i miss the comfort in being sad

Reviewed and last updated on August 17 - 8:22 PM

This review is divided up into different sections, because that is what the page has -- different sections. This will be a little easier on my part, and hopefully on yours also. In the meantime, I would like to give you some background information on this page. First of all, when I first reviewed this page, several months ago, the page was not too organized to normal standards. In addition to that, it was more of a "personal" page than a Nirvana one. Looking at it now, I have noticed a remarkable improvement. What kind of improvement? Nirvana In Nirvana will have a further look into that.

As I have stated in the above paragraph, I have told you that this page has had a remakable improvement since the last review. Indeed a time well spent. The background is black, to the left is a table that is neatly organized for each section, which we will get to later. There is nothing much on the main page, courtesy of some banners and a counter.

Information

I'm glad this page has already done this part for me :) Seriously though, it adds to it's organization. The first section is the Anti-suicide note campaign. The thing it lacks is information. All you need to do, is fill out an information sheet. If it wanted people to join per se, then it would need a good reason to have such a campaign, or any campaign for that matter, whether it's a political or whatever.

The articles section is nothing much at all, quite frankly. However I have a few recommedations as to the articles that I found very interesting. The first one is the article from Hit Parader, "Nirvana Showing Their Roots." The second one is "Life After Death," and finally "Docu-drama," which gives information about the movie about Kurt's death. If you are still interested in reading information about Wishkah, "Nirvana's Last Stand" should suit you quite well. As for the discography, I was quite surprised about how it was moved over that I had to scroll over to see it. However there are three sections divided: Albums, Singles, and Compiliatons. Also I found a problem with the text size.

The next part of the information genre on this page is the "Facts." Here, you will find information on the band members. Do not get confused about the dates beside their names, this is how long they were in the band. It provides some information about the members. You'll find general information about the band as well as former drummers and players in Nirvana, although not as comprehensive as the section above. After that there is a brief version of the discography, and information about Krist's and Dave's new bands. The full line-up is "fully" unnessary to some extent. It pretty much has the same information as to the length on how long each member lasted. Liner notes are after the full line-up, here you will find all the albums that have this, as well as some information on Wishkah. If you want to look up a meaning of the song [Note: Kurt wants everyone to have their own meaning to songs], this section is of course, divided up into albums. Wouldn't it be a creative idea to integrate the song meaning and the lyrics together?

Now, in the song meanings, if the meaning of "Polly" was not full-filling enough, you can read the orign of the song by reading the "Story of Polly." Right out of the Nirvana FAQ is the Nirvana timeline. Here you will find information on the band members, although it slides the camera a tad bit to Kurt's and Chris' lives. An oringal (from my knowledge) and informative section is the videography. If you read it you will get a pretty good idea of the videos made and the ones they were in. It would also be great to have information on the videos: equipments used, budget, etc.

Visual/Audio

Although I think it should be in the information, it does take the 'visual' aspect of things literally. What am I talking about? Lyrics of course! But before you move your cursor over the hypertext, my friend, I should give you some hints if you want to know how to get there. To be forward about this, it does not work at the moment. Let's say you want to see some Nevermind lyrics, all you need to do is at the end of the address replace it with "nevermindlyrics.html" then you should get the lyrics, this applies to Bleach, Incesticide, In Utero, Unplugged and Wishkah.

A section that works, and works well is the MIDI collection. Here you have two Winzip files, mostly rare and studio songs. 47 songs for the first and 49 for the second. Winzip compresses files and makes them smaller. Therefore it shouldn't be too large. [Note: this is at another page.]

The picture galler is good, if not excellent. You have a considerable collection of orginally scanned pictures. There are 103 pictures in all. As for the originals, you see a 'JV' on it, although you will not notice too much. The reason is to present, in a nutshell: theft. The continuation for the MIDI section, 'Sounds.' Although this time the format is 'wav.' files. This is an excellent section as to the songs it contains. I am not sure of the length of the songs.

Now is for tabs, you have all of the albums, and the tabs are usually there. However for some albums you will have a few songs, and a link or two to other tab pages. After that are movies, all of them courtesy of mtv.com, from my experience they don't work mostly.

Interact

To bring a little more "interactivity" among the users of the site, Jenn put some things that would accomplish such a goal. The first section is ICQ, this gives a list of fans that use ICQ, a program that sends files and messages real-time. You'll find their name, UIN and homepage (if it applies). If you want to post a message on the message board, it's not very hard. Just post a message or/and reply to one. No registration of any sort is required.

Poems is a section in which you can read people's poems/feelings about Nirvana and the impact it had on them. You can submit your very own by sending Jenn e-mail. The next two sections are surveys. The first survey takes your three favorite songs, and you can view the current results. The following survey is your favorite song off each album. It also has your favorite member. Personally, all of them are my favorite, however it does not have such an option.

Also the section called, 'i miss the comfort in being sad.You can very well see the awards this page has won. If you haven't seen it or do not remember, you can view the Dave's Top 10 drummer jokes. The links have three Nirvana and Hole pages. All of them have a paragraph worth of a description. If you want to win an award, you can have you chance with this page.

Conclusion

In a nut shell, great page with a larger than a nut shell's worth of potential. Although some sections were not too good, the only *major* compliant I had was the Discography and the full line-up. For the most part, this is a good page and as you'll see, with a lot of potential. It hits it where it counts: simplicity with content, nevertheless it has very good graphics.
