Nirvana Website: A
Tribute To Nirvana

This site will not really please anyone.
Certainly it has some goodies inside, and it might cause a few people to visit once or
twice. The purpose of most sites is to give information out to people, or bring them back.
Nevertheless I can not always manage to do good pages. I feel that I should give
you information on what is good and what is "not so good."
Main Page
When you enter the page, you think it looks rather neat because of the way
it looks while downloading. But when it is finished you are in for a much deeper surprise.
The black background seems okay. Now we scroll down a bit and most of the text is yellow.
You have pictures that represent the text for the places you want to go to. The funny
thing is that it is turned as if you were standing on the right corner of it. Definitely
not the clearest of images, either. If you continue to scroll down, you get a
"Tribute to Kurt" picture, as well as some large fonts to do different things,
such as: visiting CDNow!; buy Nirvana shirts and posters, etc.; sign a pention for Geffen
to release more Nirvana material. [Note: A boxset should be released by 2000.] Whenever
you are in another section, if it says, "Title Page," it does not work.
Pictures
The first section of the photo page has only three (not thumbnail)
pictures. Then you have a link to the main page or to the next set of pictures. You have a
few sections, with a total of 15 pictures. Some of them do not need to be there
necessarily, while there were a few "nice" ones.
Lyrics
You have the following albums: Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In
Utero, and Unplugged from N.Y. The way the page is set up continues to
strive into this section. The reason I said that is because not all of the fonts are the
same size. When you do click on one of the albums, you get a white background and black
text lyrics. Nothing is wrong with that. Nowadays, however, people want easier access and
navigation instead of scrolling when it comes to lyrics.
Information
You have only two sources of information here. The Nirvana FAQ and an
interview with Kurt. If you click on the interview with Kurt, the only thing you can do is
download the interview. Two conviences here: 1) You can view it offline; 2) small file
size. The same thing goes for the Nirvana FAQ, with a file size of 42.8 kilobytes.
Real Audio Songs
Probably the thing this page has to offer the most. However it only
contains a total of four rare songs, one which I never head of, they are:
"Alcohol," "Bambi Slaughter," "Baba O' Riley," and
"Run, Rabbit, Run." It does not give any information on the size of the files
nor the download time, which I believe every page should.
Links
The only page it gives a link to does is not found.
Conclusion
Well, the impression you have about this page is probably the same
impression I have. It is sad that this page has to be left alone like this. It seems like
the webmaster did not put a lot of effort into the page, and even keeping it up and
running. It lacks a lot of the basic things: content, multimedia and originality. The most
important thing is originality, and it does not mean every page has to have a song file of
some sort. I sure hope it improves, if it ever will. |
