Introduction

Some of the largest trees in the world begin with one tiny, fragile, life filled seed.  If the embryo is nourished, well kept, and the conditions and timing are right, the seed can grow into a monstrous tree.  I believe this relates to any websites out there, weither they are a gigantic tree are just a small seed.

Connectivity Test

  • Modem:  US Robotics 33.6K Winmodem

  • Connection speed: 44,000

  • "Welcome" pages are included in the test

  • Disclaimer: This test is not meant to be 100% accurate.

Internet Explorer downloaded the page in about 39 seconds, while Netscape Navigator 35-40 seconds.

Reason: I have a strong feeling that this page is much more "Netscape" compatible.  Both of the browsers seemed to have done a fine job downloading the page.  The download was pretty much "normal."  What can be done about the unnecessary stuff? Find out below.

Interface

The layout is rather simple.  Trying to be too simple has its costs, however.  The first thing that caught my attention were the frames.  There are so many other ways to "setup" a page that frames are sort of...out of style.  Generally speaking, nobody likes frames, they divide the page.  The background has the water background (think "Come As You Are"), while the left pane frame has the navigation buttons (a big no-no), the top frame has an area for banners, another unnecessary section.  The main pane, of course, serves as the main section.

Q: What can I do better?
A: First, please get rid of the frames.  However you have an idea with the tables, and I think there should be more effort put into formatting the page in tables, it's much better than frames.  The navigation buttons are fine, but if you can not find a way to "compress" (make them smaller) them, then I suggest another way to have your navigation sorted.  Also, get rid of the unnecessary stuff on the page.  The main content on the site is supposed to get your user a "feel" for the site.

Page Content

There isn't a whole lot of content here, but this site has what most fans are looking for.

  • Pictures - Divided into two sections, namely Kurt pictures and Nirvana pictures.  Problem with the Nirvana section, only 3 of the pictures downloaded, the others were "broken images."  .The Kurt section was more better, but there were still quite a bit of broken images.

  • Lyrics - (Album covers were broken images also): This section provides the normal, basic lyrics that we know and love.

  • Biographies - [Background Info.] - 1) Background of Nirvana, 2) Nirvana discography, 3)  Thorough tour guide, 4) Biography of Kurt.

  • Media  - The video section is rather impressive, containing 123 clips in all.  Although it's not the most I've seen, I was impressed with it.  The sound gallery is copied from the Internet Nirvana Club, first, I could tell that it was because I saw the background before it "changed" and also the Hole sound files (at the "welcome" page the site said it was Anti-Hole).

  • Story - I'm sure most of us love to hear stories, here, you can read Nirvana's story. The Nirvana timeline will provide you with the chronological information, while the Nirvana story that is derived from the Wishkah linear notes.

  • Murder Theory

  • Other stuff - A poem about Kurt, webrings, awards, and the links page.

Conclusion

To be brief, I think the site has a lot of work to do.  I am not criticizing the site at saying that, but any webmaster that has a determination for his site to be successful ought to know that it takes work, time, and some sacrifices to make the site the way he envisioned it.  My suggestion, add some original stuff to your site, something different...and I'm sure the site will be better in the long run.
