Introduction

Lounge Act was created as a Nirvana page.  In time, the author Lounge Act, [Jon] decided to pursue the Top 50 Nirvana sites.  The Top 50 Nirvana sites was very popular.  Somewhere in time Lounge Act was reenergized

Connectivity Test

  • Modem:  US Robotics 56K Winmodem

  • Connected at 38.6 bps

On the main page of the site, there are a total of twenty-one images.
@ 14.4k - 30.81 seconds / @ 28.8k - 15.4 seconds / @ 56K - 7.93 seconds.

Netscape Navigator downloaded the page completely in about 12 seconds, while Internet Explorer downloaded the page completely in about 16 seconds.  Netscape Navigator was viewed with this page once before the initial test.

Interface

The trend these days with webpages is something I like to call "compression."  No longer do the sites that do well make pages that make you scroll and scroll for it's layout on the main page, but rather it compresses everything together.  This makes webpages look more like magazines and newspapers.

Lounge Act makes a tremendous effort to make it look special, and it succeeds in doing so.  I think the layout is fantastic, and personally I couldn't ask for any thing else.  The only thing that really caught my eye was the top of the table -- it was squared rather than round.

What you'll see is a light blue background.  In the center of the margin in the main table, or the table that has all of the site's updates, contents, and so forth.  At the top of the main table is the navigation bar.  The left side of the table, colored dark blue, contains some of the site's own material.  The bigger part of the table focuses on the updates and the contact info for the site.   I am confused about the purpose of the "Connect" section, and how it differs from the sections found in the navigation bar.

The Site's Content

It is a theory that the less variety of content a site has, the more original it actually is.  Although that theory has not been proven yet, would this site help support that theory?

  • Images - Distinguished is two sections: Kurt and Nirvana [images].  Both sections have a total of twenty pictures each, not the most original pictures I've seen, but I feel that these pictures were picked by the webmaster for a purpose.

  • Articles - Not any article transcripts from Nirvana (it provides links to Nirvana sites that provide articles), but it does have the liner notes, lyrics to the officially released albums -- except Wishkah, Suicide related stuff, two interviews: one with Jack Endino, producer of Bleach, the other one is with Eddie Vedder.  The Endino interview can be found no where else.  Also found is the 8 Fragments of Kurt Cobain.

  • Audio - For the albums Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide and Unplugged In N.Y., by clicking on a section you will have a few songs that you will be able to download.  I did get a few "missing file" errors and I am not sure how long the length of the songs are.

  • Links - To other Nirvana [related] sites.  A short list of links, but I think the were picked by the webmaster personally.

Conclusion

After reviewing this page the song that popped into my head was the Bee Gee's "Stayin' Alive."  This site proves that it is still stayin' alive, and it is living very well.  It still has a ways to go before it can compete with the best of them.  I wish the site the best of luck.
