Reviewed on November 26, 1998 @ 2:41 AM The page has gone through a lot since it was down for quite a while. Now it's back up, and it seems to have improved in many areas. Yet the page is still under construction. So do not expect this review to be as perfect as it might be one day. Nirvanamobile has been known for it's extensive, and I mean extensive multimedia scenario. Graphics | Information | Multimedia | Conclusion
Simple. Neat. And it does have graphics. That is the really neat thing about the page. You have a banner on top, mixed in with a white background that is integrated with some lines. On the right you have a picture of Kurt. On the left, you have the contents of the page. In the middle you have the page's updates. I noticed how at the bottom the banners there do not even up with the links the page has put there, also. If you use Internet Explorer 4.x, sliding your pointer over one of the buttons will cause it to highlight in an orange color -- which is really cool. :)
Releases/Bootlegs would be the first section that pertains to information. The albums and singles has more than the release date of the album and the track lists, but to the right side you have the back cover and the front, only on those that could be found. Right now most of the areas in the bootlegs are not working. They are listed alphabetically. The section that works right now is one that is called "Fakes." This lists bootlegs with their covers, and it gives some information about what to look out for, so you will not get ripped off. A helpful section indeed. Also included are the promos. They are basically the same thing as the albums section, however you get a picture of the CD as well as the back cover. Compiliations is another part you will find. You also have videos, for example, Live! Tonight! Sold Out! Which was released in 1994. Kurt conceived most of the material, however Chris and Dave finished it. If you need to find a new Nirvana shirt, this page has a few you can look at. Courtesy of CDNow. The same goes for books. The most well-known and best would probably bet Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, which was published in 1993. After Kurt died, the author made an additional chapter about Kurt's death and the impact it had on him. The "other" section, as of right now, is under construction. Here are the following sections and their descriptions in the actual "Information" area:
Okay. So these sections you have probably seen before. But there is something that neither you nor I have seen during all the Nirvana pages I have visited. It is a section about Nirvana stuff at the Hard Rock Cafe across the world. There are only a few of them. However, it contains great pictures of the stuff there and some information about what it is and things that are not seen in the pictures. It makes me feel like buying a ticket to and going to visit one. As for links, you have two sections: banners and text. In the banners section you get a HTML code for the Nirvanamobile banner. The text section is good because you can, by typing in a few keys, submit your own site for free. The multimedia of this page is really no different than the one of most pages. In the multimedia, there is a total of 540 files. Wow! You will find all of these files in the following sections:
The songs, except in MIDI format, are 30-seconds long. Nirvanamobile has really done it's homework with the sound files. It even has the songs for the singles as well. If your interested in buying a single, or bootleg, but you are not sure how it sounds. You can download a song and you can go from there. Not a bad deal at all. Then there is the Games/Quiz section. The first quiz (and the only one) is the Quiz -- which is not up at the moment. However, the other pages are. You can also vote your opinions about Kurt's death, and your favorite album. Other games include Tic-Tac-Toe, among others. The same generally applies to the movie files, in addition, you can view a screenshot of a clip from one. You also can view the animations. Instead of having all of them on one page, which would take a tremendous amount of time to download, Nirvanamobile has done the wise thing and put in thumbnails for the animations, and if you click on one then you will view it. Currently this page has 36 pictures. All in thubnails in a table. Some pictures you may have seen before, some you may not have seen. This looks really well done. I am sure there will be more pictures on the way. Speaking of pictures, there are some pictures that are of Kurt, but they are done by pencil. You will know what I mean when you click on that section. The other sections are not available, but when they are you will see themes, fonts, wallpaper, backgrounds and more things you can download. Last, but not least, is the more "personal" section of the site. It is called "View/Join." What you have here is a banner exchange you can join. All you need to do is submit some information by typing in a form and then you must copy the HTML code for the banner (pictures in the section do not work.) The same also applies to the webring that Nirvanamobile hosts. Then you can view the awards this site has won; if you would like to know the current developments and updates of the site, you can join the mailing list. There is a guestbook you can sign and view. Also included is an article board and a section about the webmaster of Nirvanamobile. Under construction? You better believe it. Unlike some other sites that have been under construction since 1996 (get it? heh heh), this site looks promising and has a bright future ahead of it. That is if only it continues to strive in the path that it is going towards right now. The multimedia files are excellent, and so is the information. Two things that people want in a Nirvana page, and this page definetly gives it to them. The layout of the page is great, not many problems there at all. The site is easy to navigate. Just make sure you run spell check now and then to correct some grammar errors, but no one really cares about that, do they? Do not visit the site if you have the time. Visit the site even if you have the time or not. |
