After searching, searching, and searching for a page to review, I finally came across this one. And boy was I lucky. Without further delay (and because it's a little too early in the morning, let's get to the review.)
Graphics | Information | Multimedia | Miscellaneous | Conclusion
Wow. That's all I can say. The graphics are amazing. Although not the simplicity I like, it certainly doesn't overdo the whole act. The best way I can describe it is that it has an image map on the top of the page, when you scroll down it stays with you. The same image map is on the right side, a picture of Kurt takes up the left side. Also on the right side you'll notice the page updates.
Below that you'll see the week's polls. The main choice in color and background is blue and black. Clicking on any section will have an image map. And it certainly doesn't take away anything.
Since this is a multimedia page for the most part, it definitely has more sections that apply to multimedia than anything else. However the first information section, 'Texts,' makes you feel like there's nothing loss with this concept in mind. And that's true for some part.
The first text section is memories. This is anything from poems and to memories. The following section is 'Tid-Bits.' This gives some information on people that Nirvana affected or affected Nirvana, mostly Kurt's writing. Right now it has Frances Farmer, The Cost of Making Waves, and Will S. Burroughs.
The next section is for articles. It seems that one image is broken near the top. However you can find a lot of things here. You'll find Krist's posts to alt.music.nirvana, a few articles in addition to a song list and a KC equipment FAQ. Where's Dave and Krist's FAQ?
The FAQs section actually turns out to be the Nirvana FAQ. What version? 6.1. Next is the lyrics. Many pages try to take advantage of it, coming up with numerous ways to present something that has already been used time and time again. There's really nothing wrong with that. Clicking on the image map will not lead you anywhere. Moreover, they have a few hyperlinks to the lyrics at the bottom. Okay, the lyrics are easy to read and it's presented in a good manner. However, probably the most important feature in lyrics is navigation. Users consist on navigation, not only for lyrics, but for the page as well. Thus people need to go to places on your page with ease. Although CD's itself generally belong to the multimedia, they have CD reviews on this page. Not necessarily Nirvana, but it is related to them in some way. Very original in most respects.
The links section is next, and last for information. Here you'll find a moderate listings of links. However you can add it manually, so it's not necessarily the webmaster's fault. But a great and neat section nevertheless.
As I mentioned earlier, this is probably the "big thing" on this page. Do you love MP3 files? Why shouldn't you? Well this page will change your mind if you don't. It has all the songs for rare albums on this page. It also has a program in which you can be taken to a secret sounds page. If you can't get what the program says then you can take a quiz. (For you information, I passed.) I'm not fully aware what the MIDI section is about in the sounds section. From my assumption you can buy MIDI files.
The picture gallery is divided up into three different sections. The first section, Smashing and Crashing, has a total of 12 pictures. Each picture, for the most part, has words describing the picture in a 'special' way. The Personalities section has a total of 8 pictures. The last section, Kurt and the Band, has a total of 12 pictures. If you add that all up, a total of 32 pictures.
Games, games, games. You have the option of playing a picture puzzle game, in a level of easy, medium, and hard. Then you have a wordsearch and a quiz. The same one you would take if you wanted to get to the secret sounds page.
Well, this is all that falls under this category: the contacts section. There's a different e-mail address for what you want, so go check it out if you have questions or what not.
Well, excellent but lacking there of. What am I speaking of? It seems to me that this page is great in organization, graphics, and navigation for some part. That's great. However the same does not apply to the content. Which is another good thing on the page -- however there could be more. The page is great in a lot of ways, but with the route it's taking, people will think the graphics are the most important. So remember, content is a very important thing, especially when graphics such as that site has, and in the good way they are, it needs some boost.
