Review
An Original Page

Introduction

Although I hate to admit it, the world is divided into different groups.  Whatever group we belong to, most of us likes to be leaders and followers at the same time.  The same thesis applies to sites as well.  Does this site have what it takes to be original?

Connectivity Test

  • Modem:  US Robotics 56K Winmodem

  • Connected at 44K bps

  • "Welcome" pages are included in the test

The page will probably download about 15 seconds using Internet Explorer, it will take about 20-25 seconds using Netscape Navigator.

Speed

28.37 14.4K
14.18 28.8K
7.3 56K

Explanation:  Sometimes things tend to be my fault, well...not exactly.  The Image Download Information should give you a more accurate view of how it should download, but in the real world, telephone lines are not perfect.  Still, the page downloaded well enough.

Page Interface

The page takes a wide advantage of my monitor resolution.  There are quite a few banners and advertisements from the site.  The background is arm with the text primarily being black, with some clay red in it also.  There is a table in the center of the page, containing a list of the sections on the site on the left, on the right is a welcoming message and some news.

The page is set up quite nicely, but it could save some space by putting everything together instead of using frames, or, arrange the frames in another manner.  The two frames on the left could be merged together.  Regardless, the interface looks good in a mysterious way.  There is a non-frames version of the page that is the same as the main frame except there are no other frames.  The navigation on the site is excellent in regards of finding information easily, and the links are done in an intelligent manner.

Site Content

It is a theory that the less variety of content a site has, the more original it actually is.  Although that theory has not been proven yet, would this site help support that theory?

  • Pictures - A total of 16 pictures, some not-so-well-known, some are better known.  Get some more pictures, it'll help tremendously.
  • Lyrics - All of the released albums, including three subsections on rare and covered songs.  Extensive, but nothing to fret over.
  • Books/CDs - A pretty good list from amazon.com, a list of books you probably didn't know existed.
  • Message Board - Two separate boards for Tripod members and for non-members, including an archive which is currently under construction.
  • Links - Two or three "favorite" links.

Conclusion

The site seems to be a young one.  Most first time builders experiment with their site to finally get some stuff that will be good for it.  The layout may take a while to figure out.  Just keep working at it, that's my advice.
