Save Your Friends

Reviewed on October 22, 1998 @ 6:11 PM EST

This is yet another indie page. A page that is waiting to expand to more of an audience. What does a page need to expand? Well, it needs decent graphics, good content, and it needs to be updated often.

Graphics | Multimedia | Information | Miscellaneous | Conclusion

Graphics

I noticed quite a few problems upon entering this page. For example, the size of the left frames and the main page. Now, this is not the worse graphics by all means, but I know that it could do better -- couldn't we all? Another fault I found was the unreadable text? It is not the size but the color, with the background it is definitely hard to read. I suggest getting an image map or using tables to help organize the page in a more efficient and convenient manner.

Multimedia

Regardless of the graphics, the page does have some multimedia things. The first section is pictures. All of these are thumbnails, and if you have been the the Geffen Nirvana site, these pictures should be nothing new. Nevertheless a nice collection and the thumbnails do save some download time. The first column I noticed is a little distorted as in the arrangement as compared to other ones. If you go to the Multimedia section, you'll notice that it does have a few MIDI files, which contains a Win Zip file from each album, including some rare songs as well. It has some programs that it does not do anything with, such as Real Audio or Win Amp. Hopefully we'll see some addition to those files shortly.

Information

Not a lot of Nirvana information here per se, such as articles or FAQs, but it does have some things to keep you interested. It has a list of bootlegs from the Nirvana Setlister, including the grades, qualities, and set list of the show. Yet the background makes it hard to read. It does do a good job with the tabs, though. Providing a link to a drum tabs page. The bass and guitar tabs are on this page, with the songs from the albums, and, like the MIDI section, rare songs also. You can also get a view at his singles collection, in addition to his records collection and compilations.

Miscellaneous

Tired of those outdated search engines, have a look at the webrings that Save Your Friends is affiliated with. The webmaster of this page is also hosting a page for friends of a band he knows, something a little new. You can also view the so-so links that this site has posted, and, if your kind enough...you can sign the guestbook.

Conclusion

The page has proven that it has attempted to make itself decent. I hope that it can improve on it's graphics as well as content, something that it lacks. If it's heading the multimedia direction that I think it is, it should add more sound files and pictures. This page is not a bad one, far from. Yet it does have a lot of things to work on, and I know that it can make things better if it works on a few things. If you need help with designing, go to Grunger's Corner or Captain America.
