Sean's "The Rulers" Nirvana page

Reviewed on September 30, 1998 - 7:32 PM

Life is full of choices, and so is surfing the Internet. With over hudreds and millions of webpages, it does not get easier by the minute. The search engines are not a major help. You get the same pages listed each time. If we had the ability to, we would all want to do away with those pages that are no good, the pages that we simply waste our time on.

Graphics
Hmm, not a bad style nor an excellent one. It is really neutral. The background, which is gray and "Nirvana" as it's tile, you have to wonder if there is anything good in this page. The page is really a fan of tables, so is there a problem with that. Sort of. Tables are there when you need them, but you should not use them too much. Other viable options would be an image map, frames or just a simple "click here" lay out. If your using Netscape Navigator, your in for a treat. The tables seem to have a "glow" on the Netscape platform, which the Internet Explorer browser can not acheive. It makes you think altogether; nevertheless, the page's oriantation does seem a little "outdated," according to today's standard. I am not a person who really cares about if it is "up-to-date" or what not, but today's standard is what I am considering: layout, navigation, and decent looking graphics.

Lyrics and Tabs
This is so simple it's scary. On the main page, as I have told you, everything is put up into tables. The lyrics are divided according to the alphabet: A-F; G-L; M-S; and T-Z. The neat thing about this is that when you click on one of the listings, you get a complete listing of the songs, again, in table format. When you click on a song you get the lyrics to that song let alone. The same layout applies for the tabs in the same manner as the lyrics. You have the guitar and bass tabs. Adding a little more coinvience.

Albums
This one is totally unnecessary, not because it was not needed. However it did not do much with it. You click on one of the albums. In that particular section you get a thumbnail (non-clickable) view of the album cover and the songs, in tables again. What is the use of that? Nothing. It could have posted links to the lyrics, or posted some album information. However you won't find any of that on this page.

Miscellaneous
Finally a section that has focuses on more than one or two things. The first thing that you'll find is "The Note." You have the option of viewing it in picture or text form. The same thing applies for the death certificate however it does not contain a text version, which is not important. You can also read the ever-popular The Lost Interview part one and two. The Letter from Krist Novoselic is actually the liner notes for Wishkah. See? It could have posted that link the the 'Albums' section. Do not get confused into thinking these were the posts he made at alt.music.nirvana. The Chronology timeline is not a bad section. I know, we've seen it all before. Either he found an updated version to it or just put some of his notes in. It never hurts to look back at some of the things we take for granted in a "regular" page. There's also a touched up discography, you'll see what I mean if you click on it -- the discography is about three years old. You can also read the transcript for the radio-broadcasted version of "Nevermind: It's an Interview." It's really interesting to read it, and it's not edited. In the "Before Nirvana" section, it basically gives a brief history of how the band started, and information copied from the Nirvana FAQ about who was in the band and the names and so fourth. If you have the time, visit the links section, but you will probably not find much of anything in there. After which is Kurt's Obituary.

Conclusion
A so-so page. One of the few that you will not be dissapointed nor shouting with glee over. The graphics can be a little out of date, but some of the sections such as the lyrics are very organized in some respects. But most of the things you see on this page can be found on those millions of other Nirvana pages.
