Introduction

Out of all the Nirvana pages I've visited, the title of this page is probably one of the weirdest I've seen.

Connectivity Test

  • Modem:  US Robotics 56K Winmodem

  • Connected at 44k bps

  • "Welcome" pages is not part of the test.

Total images: 2 / Total bytes: 130,754

Image Download Information

Image loading will take about:
79.54
seconds @ 14.4

39.77
seconds @ 28.8

20.47
seconds @ 56K

Netscape Navigator downloaded the page completely in about 0:35 seconds, while Internet Explorer downloaded the page completely in about 0:30 seconds.

Explanation:  There's not much to explain actually.  I believe the page downloaded quite fine on my connection speed (44,000bps), but it could have gone twice as fast if there was not the large image (12808 bytes) that gives the list of sections and so fourth.  The download time is average, so there's nothing to worry about tremendously, but we can always improve.

Interface

When arriving at the page, there is a welcoming page that gives the number of "hits" the site has received.  Once we're inside the site, the interface is rather simple, you have an image map -- a picture of Kurt and a list of the sections, very well done -- and a Sub Pop logo, that's it.  The page is very well put together, and the image map looks fantastic.  The only problem with it is that it is so large.

My Suggestions:  There's not much to suggest.  I do think the page could add a little bit more to the site, namely updates.  One viable substitute is making a table that is in the center margin, you can keep your image, and the sections listed can be regular text, the page would download much quicker.

The Site's Content

It is a theory that the less variety of content a site has, the more original it actually is.  Although that theory has not been proven yet, would this site help support that theory?

  • Chronology/Discography - A regular ol' chronology and discography.

  • Pictures 31 total images in all, with a text description for the preview.

  • Devil's Work - This is the first time I have seen this article on the internet, it's from article in Blacklash, '88, and it focuses on Nirvana's rising stardom.  It's a fairly short article, but as the reporter writes: "..I certainly would've put more time and thought into it had I known it would take on historical significance.."

  • In Ireland - As we understand it, Kurt's father had Irish lineage, so it gives some information about when Nirvana played in Ireland.

  • Kurt's/Krist's linear notes - Linear notes from Incesticide (1992) and From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah (1996).

  • Jag-Stang - Remember the guitar Kurt dreamt up?  This is an article, or interview, with some sources from Fender about the process of the creation of it.

  • The "note."

  • Blood On The Tracks - An article written about Unplugged, when it was released on record in '94.

  • Montage of Heck - A section that covers several things: Nirvana's Sub Pop Bio / Chad's Note to his mother / In Utero Cover Art / A list of albums and the songs with possible meanings / and the lyrics to "Smells Like Nirvana."

  • Bootlegs - You can find some things that relate to bootlegs in the following sections: my collection / bootleg vinyl singles / bootleg vinyl albums / Radio Sessions & TV Shows.  Of course the vinyl albums and singles may not be owned by the author, but it does give a list of them.

  • Junkyard - Seems like a list of albums and other things that are a bunch of "junk" because they are probably not what the band intended for their songs.

  • Kurt And Courtney - Some information on the documentary about Kurt's death and the mysteries of it.

  • Kurt's autograph

  • Memorial - Described as: "This page is a small and very humble tribute to the late lead singer of Nirvana Kurt Cobain."

  • Polls

  • Where Are They Now? - If any of you are familiar with the VH1 show, "Where Are They Now?" you will be familiar with this.  It gives a list of a lot of people that were involved with Nirvana, and I enjoyed reading about what some of the folks were doing, a very well written article.

  • Webrings / Message Board / Links / Info / Swap meet - The two sections that are not so obvious is the information section that gives some information on the site, and the Swap Meet section is a list of things that the author of the site wants.

Conclusion

I enjoyed visiting this site because it had a couple of things that are not found on a lot or any Nirvana sites.  The articles that were presented were excellent, and I think the site should find more articles of that nature.  There's a lot of things on this site that are "common," but it doesn't over-do it to the extreme.  If you're looking for some information on records and things like that, I think this site would fit your query.  It's a pretty good site, and I think it has the potential of becoming something great -- if it works hard.
