Come Over And Do The Twist: a Nirvana page Last Updated on September 20, 1998 -
2:23 PM It's been almost a month since I reviewed this page. The first time I reviewed it, I clarified it as an "indie" page. I also stated that I hope it would improve, and it has in some areas. Nevertheless, in any page, everyone will complain about somethings. That is just human nature. The page that is perfect is the page that will never be, because it can never exist. The first thing I noticed about this page is the length it took to download the page completely onto my browser. I tested it both with IE4.1SP1 and Netscape Navigator 4.1, and they both seem to download about the same time. The main reason why the page took that long to download is the image map. Or the complications of graphical features on the page. The layout of the page, for the most part, is okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. In an attempt to make it look handsomely well, the page has left off a few things that eyes can not dismiss. For example, the image map did not complete, it seems to have been "cut off." I even tried reloading, thus, it was the same. When you scroll down, you'll find the site's news and updates. Always a helpful and handy section to almost any page. Then you have two polls and banners to look at. Most of everything is centered. It does not seem to be a problem, however, use the screen as much as you can. The collage section is a fancy name for a picture section. But this picture gallery does need some work. The first thing, like the main page, is the download time. The pictures are nice, but I would suggest putting them in thumbnail so it will not take so long to download. Secondly, nearly ¾ of the pictures are broken. At the bottom of the picture gallery is something that should have been on the main page. An image map. This one doesn't take up that much time to download, furthermore, it has everything on it, it also manages to look better. Which has made me decide to go to the frames version. Which is a hell of a lot better. Although I do not see a reason for the same image map if you have frames. The tabs section is not bad at all. You have the album, and the song listed in bullets. You click on the song and it will show up on another page, along with the other songs on the album. Or so I thought. The thing is, it turns out to be an anchor, but in real life you can not see the fonts. Why? Two reasons. 1) Dark background and 2) Dark text. Next is the lyrics, which has Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide and Unplugged. Another oddity on the lyrics section, is that you click on the album, it takes you to a bulleted list, you click on that, and it anchors you to the song, but it turns out to be similar to the tabs section. In which you can not see the text unless you highlight it. Sounds, it has a few regular ones from this page and Have a Fit. All of the files are in Real Audio format. In the downloads section, it has the KC and CL calculator, and the Nirvana and Incesticide fonts. Suggestion, add some programs, such as ICQ, Windows Media Player, DirectX 6.0, and other things as well. If your tired of those search engines that never change, perhaps you should try some webrings. This page has joined a few, and it's not afraid to show them off, all in the webrings section. Speaking of showing off, the page has won a few awards. But before I close this paragraph, if you want to win an award for your site, you can also win this site's award. Surprisingly or not, this page has four banners. Keep in mind that you can pick from any of the four banners, get the HTML code and put it on your site. How simple can that be? The contribution section is kind of odd, I am not really sure what the main purpose of it is. I believe it has things to do to help sponsor the site. If you want to add your page to the links section, you can do so by filling out a form. There are a two or three banners at the bottom. If you want to post a message, there is a WWWBoard to solve that. On a personal note, it has an error when I tried to. In a nutshell, the next few sections are to: send email, view and sign the guestbook, and finally, a special 'Thank You' section. My favorite 'Thank You' on this page, "...and for my parents, for getting horny back then." It doesn't hurt to add some humor to your page. :) Conclusion Difficult to say. Some questions have been in my mind, especially since I have done the review. "Has it improved any?" That is just an example. Well, it has improved somewhat, not as much as I would have hoped, however. I still have a feeling that it has a lot of things it can do. If it adds some content and original stuff, the page will improve a lot. The page is new, and I understand that every new page experiments and tries to find where it stands. It's a good page, in my opinion, and I would ask you to support it. |
