Introduction

Bootlegs have been around since the beginning of time.  Bootlegs are illegal copies of something.  It doesn't have to be music shows.  In the 1920's when alcohol was banned from the United States, there were bootlegs.  The people who are on the top of the ladder don't like bootlegs.  It can causes loss of profits, rebellion, or what not.

Images Download Test

Image loading will take about:
82.16
seconds @ 14.4

41.08
seconds @ 28.8

21.15
seconds @ 56K

Netscape Navigator downloaded the page completely in about 0:27 seconds, while Internet Explorer downloaded the page completely in about 0:32 seconds.

Explanation:  The page seemed to have done considerably well in both browsers.  Anywhere between 25 to 45 seconds is pretty average for a page, but that depends on your connection speed and hundreds of other things.  The interface seemed to have affected the download time very little: the scrolling marquee, and the images (134,235 bytes) did affect the download time, but there's nothing to be too ashamed of.

Interface

When you click on the link to the page or enter the address into your URL bar, we are first given a welcome; nothing spectacular.  When you do enter the main page, there is a lot of activity that will go on during the 20 to 40 seconds that you wait for the download time complete.  The activity is mostly images downloading.  The page throws it's content into the center margin, where we will find the navigation bar.  The black background seems to blend in well with everything.

The page looks similar for the most part in Netscape and IE, but some things, like the scrolling marquee, is not in Netscape.  The query at the bottom of Netscape, the buttons of it, are huge...but in Internet Explorer, it looks fine, the fonts are also larger in Netscape.

Suggestion:  The page looks fine as it is, but there could be some improvements in several areas, and it depends on your goal.  If you want to decrease your download time, make get rid of the images you don't need or make them smaller.  You can also try compressing your page's contents together, an effective way of doing this is by using tables.  There's plenty of other options like Java or Shockwave, but they take longer to download.

The Site's Content

It is a theory that the less variety of content a site has, the more original it actually is.  Although that theory has not been proven yet, would this site help support that theory?

  • Bootlegs - The page is divided up into frames, but what you'll get is the same material on most bootleg pages: rules, shows and videos that the trader has, and information about the bootlegs.

  • Pictures - A total of twenty-four (24) photos in all.  A lot of the photos are some that you may not be too familiar with, but these pictures are not excessively rare, either.  Instead of the now-traditional thumbnails, the page gives a little description of the image, which can be a little bit more affective than thumbnails, if the description is good.

  • Sounds - Nineteen (19) streaming Real Audio files.  The files mostly consists of covers or live shows.  I tried several songs with no success.

  • Message Board - A regular message board where you can post your comments...don't be shy.

  • Links - A few links to some of the Nirvana sites that we know and love.

  • Other - Some stuff on the site that really doesn't have anything to do with Nirvana, but it does give some images of the author's interests.

  • My Band/Info- The author of the site has a band, and the page that it links to gives some information about his band.  The latter section gives a brief statement about the author of the site.

Conclusion

The Underground is definitely a site that lives in the underground.  The site is one of the usual Nirvana pages that we can always pass through.  My recommendations for the site is to find some original content and/or pursue something on the site that you will enjoy and hopefully attract visitors.  This site has potential if it works hard.
