From The Muddy Banks(formerly Into The Utero Of Nirvana) Reviewed on December 18, 1998 @ 10:25 PM EST Some sites tend to stand out more than others. Some do it by having superior graphics. Some do it by having a lot of information. Some combine the two. This site doesn't do either. Graphics I was a little confused about this sites choice for layout. The background is orange, almost the same color as on the cover of Wishkah. The text is black and the links are blue. The page begins with a site logo/banner. Then comes three Nirvana pictures in between pictures of the cover of From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah. Then a short paragraph about Kurt. After this paragraph is hyperlinks to the site's content. Then you have a poll, some pictures, a quote, and a sponsor banner. The next part is somewhat interesting. Instead of just making a link to the lyrics, for a few select songs, the webmaster put a portion of the lyrics on the main page, with a hyperlink to the lyrics somewhere in the quote. Then comes another Nirvana picture, and more album covers. Information The first thing available are two interviews. Both interviews are more like magazine articles. Nirvana News is next. It has a picture of Kurt's death certificate and a single sentence of news. After the news is Kurt's Final Words which is the suicide note in text and picture form. Then there is information which tells you how to make this site your homepage. You can buy CD's from cdnow.com. You can do a crossword puzzle from grungers-corner.com. Next is a section about the song About A Girl. It is very interesting. The "The Sun Is Gone But I Have A Light" section is a introduction to Nirvana, although some of the information is incorrect. The links are next, followed by the report "Dead Men Don't Pull Triggers". Multimedia I was extremely disappointed in this area of the site. The only multimedia available on this site is the pictures. There were 29 thumbnailed pictures at this site. The reason I was disappointed is the thumbnails did not link to a full size picture. Conclusion This is not a site I would visit very often. It can change that though. I did like the About A Girl section. It appears the webmaster has put time into this site, and if he continues to do so, this site could become one of those sites that stands out among the best. |
