WTP - WHITE TRASH POSSE
What's It All About?
Last Updated on: 6/16/98
The following article is for the Club I am in, WTP (White Trash Posse for short). What is it? Why did I join? What do I think about it personally? What are the rules to become a member?
What the hell is WTP?
That's a funny thought, however, there are a lot of questions I get wondering about it. You probably have noticed the WTP logo on my front page. Let's go into detail about what it is about. Here is what it says on the page:
'WTP (White Trash Possé) is a small organization of friends who are tired of the gang rivalries and all of the stereo types, and we rebel by making a joke of them. The leader of WTP is Brian, and the clan resides in Miami, Florida. There is no race nor gender you have to be to be able to join. This sight will be trying to keep it real for all of you peeps.'
That pretty much explains it. If you're still wondering what it has to do with Nirvana, then here is the answer: Kurt and Chris dispised jocks, stereotypes, and racists.
But it's wrong.
Remember the saying as a child, "Treat people the way you want to be treated"? Funny, but many people don't use that. It's quite common. You should always respect people, even if you don't hang out with "that crowd." It's a common thing to be curtious.
And no, they don't have to be major things like lending them your car, or whatever. Just giving them lunch money for lunch or just not saying anything about them. Another example is just to answer their questions politely.
It will all come back to you, eventually. :)
What about the people who are judgemental?
That's a big question mark there. No one's perfect, and we all have to work on our iniquities. However, there's really nothing you can do about people who are racists, people whom picks on other people, or homophobics. In a sense, you have to respect their opinion in order for them to respect yours. It may sound odd and funny, but that is the way it works. If you are a good influencer, you could possibly change their ways or make them think about what they are doing.
Although people have different bodies, different looks, we all have something in common and that is emotions and a soul.
When you hurt people's feelings it appears that you are not hurting them at all. Take Kurt for example, people did stuff to him, however, he kept it all inside for years and years. He didn't say a thing, he didn't fight back (although he did acts of vandilsm), but he kept it all to himself. Ironically, that hasn't changed much for some people.
A major factor is the "trend." Just because someone doesn't, persay, wear pants to their ankles, some people would call that person a dork and consider them "not cool." Trends don't last forever, but our emotions do. You should stand up for what you believe in, examples would be Ghandi or Dr. Martin Luther King.
But you don't have to become a Civil Rights leader. A small step can bring a great change in the world around you, if not one person. The more people you touch for doing the right thing, the better. All in all, they will respect you for that. Many people respect the great leaders more than they did 30 years ago.
Of course many people have religous beliefs, and they think being gay is wrong. It is something that Jesus once said that "thou shalt not judge." (No I am not trying to make this a religous article, but it certainly applies to this.) And you shouldn't judge people just because they are white, black, gay, bi, straight, Christain or Jewish. People are people. The world would be a better place if we all just R-E-S-P-E-C-T-E-D each other.
There are some other people, that are racists and think people of a different colour is considered "lower-class." In every race there are poor and "higher-class" people. You could do your part by donating charity, or going to a homeless shelter. During the 1930's the Germans were on a crusade to wipe out the Jewish, literally. I think it is really sad how they were treated. Although I am not Jewish, I respect them because they are human beings like everyone else. No matter what, even if someone disagrees with you religously, economically, etc., you have to keep on going.
How Do I join the WTP?
Rules from the WTP page:
1. You must not be a homophobe or
racist of any kind.
2. You must pay your respect to this group by putting up
out WTP symbols whenever and wherever it's possible
3. By making fun of the thug life we are making people
realize the stupidity of their actions and in turn they change
their ways. All members will be notified through a newsletter
that Brian will send out with more information.
4. Decisions on what this group does will be carried out
through a voting process in the newsletters.
5. This group is non-profitable and a lot of fun so join
today...
Joining:
First go the the WTP page, and click on the 'Join' link. You send email saying you want to become a member. They probably will send you something back in a bit. Then if you have a homepage, it is required you put on of their great selections of banners on your page. How hard can that be?
After You Join:
The fun doesn't stop there kids. You have to get involved. Currently, there have been a lot of members who have been slacking off. They joined the club, I believe, just to belong to a club. That is not what the WTP is about. The WTP is to take a stand. It is supposed to be something different when, some of the members are like everyone else, doing nothing.
Ways To Get Involved:
It is not as hard as you think, people. All you need is a creative mind, an e-mail address, or ICQ. You can express your ideas about what should go on. By means, ways for people to notice to WTP. There are many new, better, and creative ways it can run. But it can not pursue if nobody helps. It all comes down to ideas, and with that, the WTP will become sucessfuly.
Does It Cost Anything?
As of yet, no. However, there may be some circumstances, one day, where you may have to pay a minimal fee. The ideas the group is debating may cost some money. Trust me, it will not be much.
Job openings/Positions?
We are always opened for "creative, and active" members to join. Currently, the President, Brian, is looking for a Vice-President for the WTP. You must become and member. However, you can be a vegetable and expect him to pick you. You must become involved and help the WTP grow.
The WTP is a great idea, it's not a regular club, organization, clan, and it's definitly not something to feel "cool" about. It is to help people understand that prejudice of all kind is wrong. Honestly, it's really about a group of people together, on the form of Internet, that believes it is wrong to hate people because of their differences. The thing about the World Wide Web is that it is supposed to reunite everyone, of different colors, backgrounds, sex, and interestes.
Of course you may feel a little "cool" about it, but it would be wrong to consider it "cool" if you haven't done anything when you become a member.
