News from Stella July 2002 (stella@ncable.net.au)
An original ska dance band from Ballarat, mainly performed as a 7 to 9 piece band, the Boxing Tostados had a huge range of musicians who played with the outfit over the 8 year life of the band. The Boxing Tostados had an infectious groove and a hard edged skank, which left audiences screaming for more. The Boxing Tostados played hundreds of gigs throughout regional and metropolitan Victoria, also in S.A and N.S.W! Celebrating their birthday every year on Boxing Day the band often said “ we are a BBQ! not a band!” The Boxing Tostados released a cassette in the early nineties and in 1997 they recorded a live gig from the Bridge Mall Inn in Ballarat, and burnt a limited amount of CD’s that sold only over the bar at the Bridge Mall Inn. Still to this day the Boxing Tostados threaten to do a reunion gig, but this has not happened since 1997.
